“There are so many servants in this house. I am the mistress of the Shawn family, not a maid or a servant. It’s not my place to do the houseworks,” Chloe declared firmly. 

For the past three years, Chloe had been at their beck and call. 

Every year, she prepared meals for Admas’s birthday. 

Yet, despite her day–long efforts, she would receive barely at word of praise from anyone except Admas. Instead, they would nitpick, criticizing everything from the taste to the presentation. 

Since she was apparently so inept, she would let someone else handle the task this year. 

Chloe’s words left the entire family speechless. 

Cathy, somewhat resentfully, interjected, “Chloe, while that may be true, it’s Grandpa’s birthday today. As the mistress of the Shawn family, shouldn’t you do something to show your appreciation?” 

“Why don’t you do something then? You’re the youngest here,” Chloe said. 

The youngest should be the one be the one to do the housework.

She was ready to fire back at every jab. 

As Cathy pouted, Admas descended from the stairs. 

She hurried forward with a smile, “Grandpa, look at Chloe! I merely suggested she help in the kitchen, and she retorted that I, having just graduated and idle, should learn to cook.” 

Admas was her grandfather, after all. 

In Cathy’s mind, he wouldn’t favor Chloe, an outsider, over his granddaughter.
