Chapter 54: Guilt
Chloe blinked. “Lotus Manor,” she said.
She was terrified Candy would ask about what happened yesterday, but luckily, the call was just to tell her about a new job.
“Get ready. If this job goes well, you’ll make a good chunk of cash. You’ve been short on money lately, right?” Candy said.
“Alright, got it. I’ll be back soon,” Chloe said.
She ended up at Lotus Manor last night purely by accident. If she hadn’t been drunk, she never would’ve gone back.
Now that she’s sober, she’s gotta go.
The maid noticed Chloe putting on her coat and instinctively asked, “Mrs. Shawn, heading out?”
Chloe felt a whirlwind of emotions. She wanted them to stop calling her that, but then she remembered that jerk Michael hadn’t signed the divorce papers yet. She had to keep quiet.
She was about to turn the doorknob when she saw Michael
coming in from the garden.
She was shocked to find he didn’t go to work today.
Just as Chloe was about to leave, she saw Admas step out of the car, arms loaded with stuff.
She froze by the door. “Admas…” she whispered.
“Why would Admas show up now?” she wondered.
Admas grinned widely, his smile growing even bigger when he spotted Chloe. He strode towards her with excitement.
“Hey Chloe, I brought you some more supplements. You must’ve run out of the last batch by now, right?” he said.
Chloe knew Admas wasn’t just after grandkids; he genuinely cared about her.
She reluctantly took the bags and hooked her arm through his, leading him inside.
“Admas, next time, just have the servants bring it over,” Chloe said, feeling a bit sorry for him for making the effort.
Admas waved it off. “No worries, I’m not too old to walk yet.”
Chloe could tell just by looking at those supplements–they were definitely pricey.
Admas always brought her expensive supplements. He didn’t mind spending the money at all.
Chloe’s throat felt dry and scratchy.

Thinking about her marriage with Michael ending soon, and the divorce just around the corner, she felt a pang of guilt towards Adams.
Guilt made her eyes burn, and just as she was about to cry, Michael came over and wrapped an arm around her shoulder.
She froze for a moment, then leaned her head on his shoulder, wiping all her tears on his shirt.
Michael froze.
Seeing them like this, Admas felt a warm sense of relief.
He grabbed Chloe’s hand and placed it in Michael’s, holding on tightly.
“Ah, I’m getting old. Seeing you two so happy together puts my mind at ease!” Adams said.
Their faces froze for a split second, but luckily Admas didn’t
