Chapter 55: Dirty Schemes
Michael frowned at her. “If we separate now without getting a divorce, what happens when Adams shows up again and you’re not here?”
Chloe scoffed, “That’s your problem to figure out.”
“Chloe, what am I doing wrong that makes you want to argue with me every single day?” Michael asked.
Michael had no clue what he’d done this time. Asking her to move a suitcase was apparently a huge deal.
“Not satisfied? That’s what I should be asking you. What about me isn’t enough for you? Why do you keep ignoring my feelings? Can’t you learn to respect me? Do you even see me as an
independent person?” she snapped.
“Who does he think he is, making decisions for me?” she thought.
She endured the past three years, tried to cater to his tastes, and respected him.
But now, she wasn’t having it.
She decided not to love him anymore, so he meant nothing to
her now!

Michael narrowed his eyes, looking visibly annoyed.
“How have I not respected you?” he asked.

“If you really respected me, would you have made me take meds for three years? Do you even know what your family says about me? I only said I couldn’t get pregnant to protect your feelings, but you know the truth.”
Chloe pointed at the supplements Admas had just brought over, feeling the tears well up again.
She wasn’t infertile; he always used protection. On the rare occasion he forgot, he’d make sure she took the morning–after pill.
She was popping birth control pills while taking fertility meds. No way was she going to let him mess up her body like this.
Chloe had enough of Michael’s selfishness. Without another word, she walked out of Lotus Manor.
She’d made up her mind to cut him off for good.
Michael stood there, mouth open, unsure of what to say.
……
Back at Candy’s place, Chloe sat down and swiftly got into work mode.
“Setting up a firewall shouldn’t be too hard,” Candy said.

Chloe’s short on cash but needs a new house. If she nails this job, she’ll finally have enough money to buy one.
They thought the job would be a piece of cake, but Candy and Chloe quickly realized their firewalls were getting obliterated the moment they went up, not even lasting a minute.
At first, Chloe thought it was just a coincidence. But after fixing it several times and still no luck, she knew something was up.
Candy frowned and asked, “What’s going on?”
“Someone’s hacking our system over there,” Chloe said.
A pre–programmed system wouldn’t have this level of flexibility.
The only possibility is that there’s a real person behind the scenes over there too.
Chloe’s fighting spirit ignited. Few could stand as her rivals, and even fewer could trade blows with her like this.
She thrived on setbacks.
