Chloe didn't say anything. She really hadn't made any arrangements.
However, her foreign Language was pretty good, so she figured she could find a place after taking James to the hospital.
Seeing her expression, Michael knew she hadn't sorted it out yet, so he said, "I have a place there. I bought it years ago but never lived in it. If it's nearby, you can stay there."
As if afraid she might refuse, Michael added, "I can even transfer the property to your name."
Although dealing with the paperwork abroad might be a bit complicated, she wouldn't have to go house hunting from one place to another.
"When did you buy it?" Chloe asked casually.
"Back in college."
Chloe glanced at him, her attitude suddenly turning cold.
"I don't want your house. Who knows which woman has stayed there before? Back when you and Lucy were dating abroad, I bet that's where you stayed!" Chloe hadn't expected to bring up Lucy again.
"Considering that Lucy and Michael had indeed studied abroad together and dated for a while, who knew if they had lived together?
I didn't want to disgust myself by staying in a place where my ex-husband and his mistress might have lived," Chloe thought.
Michael frowned. "When did I ever date Lucy?"
Seeing him deny it, Chloe rolled her eyes. "All your friends know you two had a thing. What's the point of lying to me now?"
"Lucy had practically bragged to me about how she and Michael had a sweet romance abroad. I hadn't been happy about it, but what could I do? Back then, Michael had treated Lucy like she was something precious.
Besides, their relationship had happened before Michael got married, so I really had no grounds to complain.
It just made me feel uncomfortable, that's all," Chloe thought.
Michael grabbed her wrist to stop her from walking away and made her listen.
His expression was severe. "I never dated Lucy. When we were abroad, she said some local thugs were harassing her and asked me to pretend to be her boyfriend."
At the time, he was single, and it seemed like a simple favor, so he agreed.
No one had brought it up again afterward, so he had forgotten about it. He never expected Chloe to misunderstand that he and Lucy had been in a relationship.
Chloe listened to his explanation and pressed her lips.
"Why are you telling me this? Even if you weren't together, you still worked with her at Shawn Heavy Industries and later at Paramount Airlines."
She wasn't sure why she was saying all this.
It was like once Lucy was mentioned, she couldn't stop herself from talking about it.
Michael sighed. "At the time, Grandpa didn't support me starting Shawn Heavy Industries. Lucy's investment was crucial, so she became a shareholder. As for her moving to Paramount Airlines, that was my mistake, but I did it to repay a debt."
"A debt?
What debt?" Chloe thought.
Seeing her confused expression, Michael continued, "Back when we were abroad, she got injured saving me. Her leg was almost amputated. I owe her for that."
Chloe scoffed, "Oh, right, you owe her. Why don't you just spend your whole life repaying her?"
She thought, "That's precisely what Lucy wanted."
"That's not going to happen."
