Seeing Lucy’s tear–streaked face, Michael gently whispered words of comfort.
“I’ll handle this. I won’t let these rumors touch you.”

Michael led Lucy to the couch and they sat down. She huddled close to him, like a frightened fawn.
Her eyes brimmed with tears.
“Chloe, there’s nothing going on between Michael and me. We’re just college buddies and coworkers. Can you please tell your friends to back off? I really don’t want to be mistaken for a mistress. If it bothers you that much, I can quit Paramount Airlines.”
Despite her sincere tone, her eyes betrayed her challenge.
Lucy smirked and taunted Chloe with confidence.
She had always beaten Chloe effortlessly since they were kids. This time would be no different, she thought.
Michael sat behind Lucy, so he couldn’t see her face.
Lucy knew it all too well.
Chloe sank into the single armchair on the other side, a smirk

playing on her lips. “What a perfect match,” she thought, “They’re all over each other right in front of me.”
Everything today was orchestrated by Lucy.

Intimate photos, threatening texts, and abusive words were all part of Lucy’s initial plan.
“Lucy made Michael think I was a wicked woman.”
Michael’s phone buzzed. He stepped away, phone in hand, and shot Chloe a warning look. “Don’t mess with Lucy,” he said firmly.
Chloe almost burst out laughing–Lucy was the one teasing her
this time!
Chloe watched him walk away, then turned her gaze to Lucy.
Lucy trembled, looking innocent.
“Cut the act. He can’t see you now.”
Lucy blinked her big, teary eyes and said innocently, “Chloe, I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“You don’t know? Show me that intimate photo you’re talking
about.”
Lucy handed the phone to Chloe. With one glance, Chloe recognized the photo: it was her kissing Michael last night.

“The photo was taken last night, but he only sent it to you this morning. If he wanted to mess with you, he would’ve sent it last night. By the time he sent it this morning, Michael and I had already finished making love.”
Lucy felt like she was suffocating, gripping her phone tightly.
“Where’s that snarky text they sent you? Let me see it.”
Chloe glanced at the phone number while reading the text.
“This number isn’t Candy’s.”
Lucy frowned. “No idea. Maybe one of your other friends.”
Lucy kept up her innocent act. Chloe cut to the chase, “Call this number. Let’s hear what she has to say.”
If Lucy makes that call, her plan is toast.
Lucy’s once sorrowful eyes gradually turned icy cold.
Seeing that Michael was still on the phone and wouldn’t be back for a while, Lucy dropped her innocent act.
