My wrist was gripped tightly by a hand. I looked up to see who it belonged to.. Axel. A familiar, invasive scent wrapped around me. “Sophie, what are you doing? These are all our memories!” he exclaimed..
Oscar frowned deeply and looked down at me. “Sophie, you’re being unreasonable. What are you trying to do?”
“They’re just outdated data taking up space on my phone. Deleting them will free up storage,” I replied nonchalantly, shaking off Axel’s grasp.
I pressed the delete button, and in an instant, all those memories vanished along with the photos.
Oscar sighed, his tone filled with forced patience. “You’re just tired and sick. Stop throwing tantrums. Once you’re better, we’ll take new pictures.”
“Yeah, and we’ll bring Nina along. She’s always told me she’s never traveled before. We can make even more memories together,” Axel added cheerfully.
A bitter smile tugged at my lips, but I said nothing.
Oscar, mistaking my silence for agreement, relaxed his furrowed brow. “Good. That’s a great idea.”
Axel seemed to notice the coldness in my expression and opened his mouth to say something, but a sudden video call notification interrupted him.
“Oscar, what should I do?” Nina’s voice came through the phone, trembling with fragility. “The power went out while I was showering, and there’s still soap all over me. I’m scared… What should I do?”
The screen showed Nina looking distressed, her damp golden hair clinging to her chest, water droplets soaking through her sheer nightgown. It was as if she were deliberately using the video call to entice Oscar.
“You two are at the hospital with Sophie, right? She’s still not better? All this fuss over a piece of cake… Anyone who doesn’t know better might think she’s just pretending,” Nina’s voice oozed through the speaker, laced with mockery.
Oscar’s gaze shifted to me, filled with doubt. “Sophie, are you using this as a way to get our attention?”
Before I could respond, Axel shouted anxiously into the phone, “Don’t worry! I’ll come over right away!”
I remained silent, watching the two of them dash off in a hurry.
