Chapter 0227
“Get out!” Hansel shouted.
“Hans…” Ingrid pleaded.
“I said get out! Can’t you hear me?”
Ingrid bit her lip as she trembled with hurt. There wasn’t even a trace of pity on Hansel’s face.
“And one more thing. Unless I give you permission, don’t you dare step foot in this room again. Got it?”
“Why?” Ingrid looked up at him, her eyes brimming with tears. “This is the master bedroom; it should be our room. Why can’t I come in?”
“Oh, ‘our‘ room?” Hansel’s smile turned cruel. “Do you really think you deserve that?”
Ingrid staggered, almost losing her balance. Hansel didn’t make any move to help her. He was watching her with a detached, almost amused expression that seemed to say, “Go ahead. Just keep acting.”
“Get out!” he shouted.
Crushed, Ingrid turned to leave.
“Wait…” Hansel stopped her.
Hope flickered in Ingrid‘
eyes once more. But in the next instant, he said, “Take your trash with you.”
In the end, Ingrid left the master bedroom with the tray in hand, feeling utterly humiliated.
The housekeeper asked, “Ma’am, did Mr. Johnson still refuse to eat?”
Ingrid quickly composed herself and sighed with feigned concern, “Yes, he wouldn’t eat no matter how much I tried to persuade him. You can take care of these things. I’ll go upstairs and keep him company…”
“Of course, of course, you go ahead. I’ll handle everything here.”
Ingrid nodded, her face masking satisfaction as she supported her waist and turned to head upstairs. Yet the moment she turned her back, her smile vanished entirely.
She looked up in the direction of the master bedroom and swore to herself. She would occupy that room someday!
That evening, Hansel unusually stayed in. Around 9:00 pm, he asked Martha to deliver a meal to his room. Ingrid, who was staying in the adjacent guest room, heard the commotion of Martha coming and going. She immediately pressed her lips together.
Was she truly not worth as much as a housekeeper to him?
Suddenly, her phone rang. It was her roommate calling.
Ingrid swiped to answer the call. “Hello, Abby.”
“Ingy, are you okay?” Abigail’s concerned voice came through the line.

But Ingrid didn’t sense the concern in her friend’s voice, Instead, she found it odd–who would call someone and immediately ask if they’re okay? Were they really that close?
“I’m fine, what’s going on?”
“You haven’t been to class lately, and you haven’t been answering your phone either. We were really worried something had happened to you!”

Ingrid gently patted her still–flat belly, speaking in a leisurely tone, “What could possibly happen to me?”
Even if something was up, it was a good thing.
