Miranda felt that if she didn’t find an excuse to get Joli out of the lab, he could easily stay there for an entire day. Then, he would pull another all–nighter. 

Did Joli really think he had some kind of superpower? He worked nonstop for two days with barely any sleep and no proper meals. Yet, he still intended to keep going after waking up? 

Miranda’s scalp prickled in disbelief after seeing his reckless determination. She knew Joli was driven, but she hadn’t expected this level of intensity. He was working himself to the bone, acting like his health didn’t matter! 

“What are you standing there for? Pack up quickly and come out. We’ll be waiting for you at the door.” 

With that, Miranda left with Paul. Joli stood rooted to the spot, dumbfounded. 

“Wait a minute…” he thought. 

Lunch? At her house? 

Joli didn’t make them wait long. He cleaned himself up in five minutes and was out the door in a jiffy. By cleaning up, it really was just washing his face and taking his lab coat off. 

He hadn’t even bothered to fix his hair, so it was still a little messy when he reappeared. Nonetheless, he looked presentable, as if he had intentionally styled his hair in a casual 

manner. 

As expected, the saying was true. A good–looking face could make even the worst hairstyles look stylish. 

Bewildered, Joli got into the passenger seat of Miranda’s cat. Paul raised an eyebrow at him before opening the door to his own car. 

Joli was surprised. Was he supposed to be riding in Paul’s car instead? 

The car came to a stop in half an hour. Joli had nearly dozed off during the journey. Still in a daze, he followed behind Miranda as they entered the gates. 

The next moment, he was stunned by the house in front of him. His drowsiness completely disappeared. 

The house was massive! 

Joli couldn’t identify the style of the house’s features, but it was undeniably tasteful. There was even an enormous garden. 

As they walked through the garden, Joli noticed a vegetable patch nearby. Further off, there were greenhouses in the distance.

“Miranda, aren’t we here for lunch?” he asked 

Why did it feel like they were at a luxurious country villa? 

Right after Joli’s question, Fiona came out with a welcoming smile. She had heard the sound of the rumbling engine. 

“Mimi, you’re here!” she exclaimed.” 

Then, she turned her attention to Paul and Joli. She was familiar with Paul, so her gaze lingered on Joli. Miranda introduced them to each other. 

Joli greeted Fiona shyly, “Mrs. Garrison, nice to meet you. Sorry for the trouble.” 

Only now did he realize that he had come empty–handed, without any fruits or gifts, despite being a guest at Miranda’s family home. 

How rude of him! 

“Nice to meet you. It’s no trouble at all!” Fiona invited them in warmly. She grabbed slippers for them at the entryway and offered to hang their coats. 

Neither Paul nor Joli would let an old lady like her do the work, and they quickly handled it 

themselves. 

Joli hesitated for a moment when he saw the slippers. He asked Fiona whether there were shoe covers available. 

Fiona quickly responded that slippers would be much more comfortable than shoe covers. She assumed that Joli was concerned that someone else had used them before and explained that the slippers were clean and brand new. 

He felt even more nervous and explained that he hadn’t meant it that way. In his understanding, slippers were only for family, while guests typically used shoe covers. 

However, Fiona clearly didn’t think that way. She urged him to put the slippers on enthusiastically and led him to the living room. “We have some fruit and snacks here. Help yourself. Don’t be shy!” 

“Alright, thank you very much,” Joli said. “You don’t have to entertain me. I’ll make myself at home.”
