Miranda got up to check on Paul immediately. His eyes were tightly shut, his face flushed crimson, and his breathing was unusually heavy 

“Dr. Jefferson? Dr. Jefferson, can you hear me? Wake up!” 

Paul’s eyelids moved, but his eyes wouldn’t open, 

“Paul? Wake up!” she called. 

This time, there was finally a response. Suddenly, Paul’s eyes flew open. “Miranda?” 

“You scared me…” Miranda was about to sigh in relief when Paul grabbed her wrist the next second. He pulled her toward him with surprising strength. 

Stunned, Miranda couldn’t stop herself from falling into his arms. 

“Miranda…” His heavy breaths sounded above her head. Their bodies pressed against each other through the thin fabric of their clothes. The shared warmth seemed to meld them together. 

Paul let out a suppressed groan involuntarily. 

Frozen stiff, Miranda looked at him in disbelief. Did he just… 

The next moment, she met his hazy and unfocused gaze. Miranda ignored her embarrassment and braced herself against his chest. She pushed him down with force and pinned him in place before freeing one hand to touch his forehead. 

Ouch! His forehead was burning hot! 

“Paul, can you hear me? Paul!” 

He continued to murmur her name, “Miranda… Miranda…” 

Although it was just her name, there was an unmistakable hint of longing and desire in his voice. Coupled with his labored breathing, the whole situation appeared to be a little… lewd. Even though Miranda wasn’t a naive young woman, she couldn’t stop her cheeks from burning with embarrassment. She averted her eyes, but the sight before her only heightened 

her senses. 

In their struggle, Paul’s bathrobe had loosened, revealing his firm and well–defined chest. Hurriedly, Miranda straightened his robe and tied the belt securely around his waist.

“You were delirious from a fever, and your body was burning up last night. I couldn’t wake you no matter what I tried. In that situation, I didn’t dare to give you any medication on my own, so I had to bring you to the hospital. How are you feeling now? Do you feel better?” Miranda asked. 

Paul nodded. “Much better, thank you.” 

Miranda said with a smile, “You’ve helped me so many times before. It’s only fair that I help you in return.‘
