As we settled into our seats on the plane, the hum of the engine filling the air, Nathan threw a casual arm over the back of my seat, his touch reassuring. Tristan sat to my right, his knee lightly brushing against mine as he leaned in, a soft smile on his lips.
“So, how was the grand showdown between Adonis and Sara?” Nathan asked, his fingers lightly tracing circles on my shoulder.
I let out a small laugh, shaking my head at the memory of the argument. “Oh, it was a mess. They were at each other’s throats, like usual. Sara was yelling about how he always chose me over her, and Adonis—well, he wasn’t exactly calm. But Ryan helped calm things down.”
“Of course she’d say that,” Tristan chimed in, his eyes sparkling. “You’re the favorite child. Naturally, she’d be jealous.”
I elbowed him playfully. “You’re not helping.” But the warmth in their teasing eased some of the tension lingering from the confrontation.
Nathan chuckled, leaning closer, his breath warm against my ear. “At least it’s settled, right?”
“Yeah,” I said softly, feeling the weight of his proximity, the way his body seemed to wrap around mine protectively. “They finally talked things out. Adonis actually said he was proud of her. I’ve never seen him like that before.” I paused, glancing between them. “It was… hard to watch, but good in the end.”
Tristan gave me a gentle nudge, his voice softer now. “I’m glad they worked it out, but I still can’t shake this feeling. We haven’t been able to reach anyone from Alaska, and it’s been too long.”
Nathan’s smile faltered, his brow furrowing. “He’s right. I’ve been trying to contact them all day, and nothing. Not even a blip. It’s weird, Ella. Something’s off.”
I swallowed the small knot of worry that formed in my chest and squeezed Tristan’s hand. “Everything will be okay. We’ll get home, and everything will be fine. I’m sure it’s just a glitch or something.”
Nathan gave me a small nod, but the tension in his eyes didn’t fade. “Let’s hope you’re right.”
I leaned back into the seat, feeling their comforting presence on either side of me. Tristan’s fingers intertwined with mine, a silent gesture of reassurance, while Nathan’s hand drifted down my arm, grounding me in the moment. Despite the unease, there was an intimacy between us, an unspoken bond that always seemed to grow stronger, no matter the circumstances.
Nathan leaned in closer, pressing a soft kiss against my temple. “You always know how to calm me down,” he murmured, his voice low, meant only for me.
“And you always know how to keep me on my toes,” I replied, my smile lingering as I rested my head against his shoulder. Tristan’s thumb brushed over the back of my hand, his touch steady, warm, always there.
For a brief moment, I let myself relax, cocooned in their presence, in the quiet space we had created between us. It was these little moments, the way they both held me, both physically and emotionally, that made everything else feel manageable—even when the world around us seemed to be spiraling.
But as the plane began to cruise through the sky, Nathan shifted, his gaze darkening. “Still can’t shake the feeling that something’s wrong. We should’ve heard from them by now.”
