Chapter 104 Am I okay?
I smiled.
“No, I said if she doesn’t want to be with me, then I can’t help it, and in the worst case if she died, then there is not much I can do.”
“How can you say this so calmly?”
“Because like I said, I can’t change anything myself.”
She still looked at me with a frown, I could see she was trying to read me.
“Mum, believe me, I’m okay, but I hate you aren’t talking to dad. You love each other. What are you waiting for? I bet you are missing him.”
My mum lowered her head.
“Come on. Go upstairs and wake him up.”
“Gideon, I really hope you are honest with me.”
“I am.”
She sighed, and she walked to the stairs. I smiled while I watched her go up to dad. I could tell her I’m finally in contact with Alice, but she’d tell dad huffing, she was right, and that would have ruined everything. So I kept it a secret.
It took a while to see them coming down together. They weren’t happy but dad held mum’s waist, and she let him, so I hoped they finally reconciled.
“Do you want some breakfast?”
“Breakfast? It’s time for lunch.” Mum said, surprised.
“We just got up, so it’s breakfast.” I said with a smile. She shook her head.
“Get ready, Gideon. I want a family dinner this evening.”
“Seth hates me.” I commented.
“He doesn’t hate you, he just got hurt last time because you shouted at him, after he really worked a lot to help you.” My dad said.
What he said made sense, but my problem was he tried to tell me what I should do. I knew I was indeed rude to him, and that hurt me too.
“Okay, I’ll be there.”
Mum nodded and held dad’s hand.
“We are leaving now.” She said.
“Don’t you eat first?” I frowned.
“You shouldn’t do kitchen darling, that is a job for women.” My mum said. I rolled my eyes. I couldn’t believe that she was offended that I made breakfast for dad.
“Okay, then I’ll see you two later.”
Mum kissed my face. Dad nodded, and they both left. I looked at the food, and I took some. When I sat down to eat, my gaze wandered on the chair that Alice used. I missed her so badly.
I was ready in a few hours. I got into my car, and I drove to my parent’s house. When I walked outside in the garden, Seth and the others were already there. Sloane and Leah greeted me, but Seth didn’t even look at me. Ava hugged her dad, laying her head on his shoulder, but when she saw me, she lifted her head and she broke free from Seth’s hug. She came to me and lifted her hands towards me, showing me she wanted me to take her into my arms. I lifted her up, then I hugged her. Seth looked at me with a killer look, but he didn’t say a word.
I sat down with her, and I just stayed quiet.
Chapter 104 Am I okay?
“Gideon, do you know where Alice is?” I was surprised when I heard Ava whispering in my ear, avoiding anyone else to hear her question. I knew I had to lie to her, too. She wouldn’t have kept that secret if I’d told her the truth.
“Is she dead?”
My eyes widened when I heard the little one whispering into my ear again. I moved my head not to let anyone see me whispering the word “No“.
I really wanted to take her away and tell her something that would make her be at ease, but I couldn’t think of any reason to do that.
“Okay everyone, the dinner should be ready, we can go in. Seth, Gideon, you two are staying here for a few minutes, before you follow us.” My mum said. Seth looked at the sky.
“Gideon, can I stay with you?” Ava questioned me. I shook my head.
“No, you better go with mum, I’ll be there soon.” She looked offended, but she climbed down from my lap and she went to her mum. When they all left, we sat there in silence.
“Seth, I’m sorry for the last time. I was out of my mind. I didn’t mean to argue with you, and I’m grateful you tried to help me.”
He took a deep breath, but still didn’t say a word.
“I know I made a mistake, but you can’t avoid talking to me forever.”
He looked at me with a sudden move.
“You made a mistake? Because of you I have to watch my daughter crying every fucking day, and we could see our parents arguing for the first time. You always do what you want, then put all the consequences on others. And if it still wouldn’t be enough, you are trying to put more pressure on everyone, because you are a selfish bastard who only wants his happiness no matter what it costs for others.”
I lowered my head. What he said was true. Actually, I never thought about it this way, but I never thought helping me was so against his will. He lived a good life, with a beautiful family, but I would have helped him anytime, in anything, if he would have needed me to help.
