As Noctis landed, there was a silence that was hard to describe. No one knew why, but it just felt right to fall silent at his arrival.
The Eldorians had felt this. The Vortharions had felt this. Even their god, Nex, had felt this.
And that simple feeling made a deep frown appear on Nex’s face. It was odd.
They had puppies on their world, clueless creatures with boundless cuteness, whose entire purpose was to have fun and play.
Eventually, they grew up to become fiercely loyal companions, and many, especially those capable of using mana, were considered fierce and powerful beings in adulthood.
But this one didn’t look grown up at all.
He was tiny, no larger than any regular puppy. White, furry, with big eyes currently glowing gold. Cuteness overload.
However, Nex ignored the baffling question of what the hell a puppy was doing here and instead focused on an even more perplexing thing.
The puppy looked like it could be squashed beneath his feet. And yet... his aura...
That was the problem. His aura felt heavy. His eyes, boundless. His presence dwarfed even the hardened Eldorians standing behind him.
Though small in form, it was as though the shadow of a legendary beast loomed over them all.
One question echoed in Nex’s mind:
Who the hell is this pup?
A sudden clap broke the silence, and all eyes turned to Whisker.
"And the main character finally arrives!" he said with a wide grin, looking at Noctis. "Damn, you look like crap, kiddo. You miss Anastasia that much, huh?"
Noctis glared at Whisker. "Kuu!"
Though he meant to shout it, the sound came out with little energy. He simply shook his head and looked away, refusing to give Whisker any more attention.
He had seen how Dada and Uncle Ozeroth interacted with the man, cautiously. The guy was a wild card with a few screws loose. Noctis intended to keep that same distance.
Regardless, Whisker had been accurate in his assessment.
Noctis looked tired. His fluffy ears drooped, and his gaze was low, half lidded. He looked exhausted and sad, and his emotions reflected that look completely.
"Kuu~"
He let out a soft sigh, tail swaying slowly, dejected.
He had been having the time of his life with Anastasia when Oberon’s words reached him.
At first, Noctis had intended to ignore it. They were Eldorians, after all. They should be able to take care of themselves.
But after Anastasia’s gentle nudging, he had been forced to come.
And now he stood here, staring at a bunch of idiots too proud to admit that their goal was nothing but a futile attempt.
"I know, I know. Not what you were expecting, right?" Whisker said, gesturing toward Nex. "I was hoping for an actual challenge, not some narcissistic god who makes his people wear portraits of him."
Noctis gave Nex a sideways glance, and a small smile crept onto his face. He nodded rapidly in agreement with Whisker’s words.
"I wouldn’t be surprised if he made them chant his name while brushing their teeth," Whisker continued. "It’s crazy, right? Damn, I pity those people. Probably have it even worse than those blue bastards."
Noctis chuckled again, genuinely amused. Whisker might be insane, but he sure knew how to crack a joke.
He was still pissed at the Zorvans even now. He could still see that damn blue when he closed his eyes.
Regardless, Whisker went on, making different jokes about Nex.
