Chapter 1280: Not Necessary

"Endless Blade."

The hearts of the people of Vortharion seemed to freeze as those two words reached their ears.

They had barely recovered from the surge of roaring force that tore through a part of the city and caused the other parts to tremble when the skies suddenly turned azure.

The people turned their shaky eyes up. For a second, none of them saw the bright golden sun. Instead, only an endless number of razor sharp azure slashes blotted the skies.

They searched for the source and locked their eyes on Atticus just as his arm descended.

The slashes tore downward before anyone could react, reaching the wide eyed people.

The blades sliced through bodies, through buildings, through anything and everything in their path.

Many tried to resist, unleashing their aura or protective techniques, but it was pointless. Every defense was severed, and every defender was brought down.

Screams filled the city as chaos erupted. People scrambled and ran, desperately seeking shelter, but there was nowhere safe. The slashes tore through every refuge, every man who rose to shield others, every woman who tried to flee.

And they were endless. As one wave finished its work, another ignited in the sky and shot down again, bringing more devastation in their wake.

"We’ll handle the rest. Go for the core," Ozeroth suddenly said.

Atticus turned to his spirit. The man’s expression had somehow turned serious.

If he had to be honest, he preferred this version of Ozeroth to his usual eccentric side. Regardless, he was glad the spirit knew when to be serious and when not.

"Alright."

Atticus nodded to the others, and they unleashed their auras, causing the air to turn heavy. With quick nods, they shot off as streaks of light, tearing toward different parts of the city.

The army they had met had been well organized, their forces spread throughout the city, ready to react from any angle.

Atticus didn’t want to destroy the entire place. It was not out of mercy, but because of his target.

Their goal for the scenario was to reach the core of the world. Atticus had translated that to the capital of the world, where their god resided.

’I wonder what I’m supposed to search for.’

The voice hadn’t said anything specific, and he didn’t want to bury what he was meant to find beneath rubble.

He ignored the explosions and screams echoing in the distance and performed a quick scan of the city.

’There.’

His eyes locked onto a palace at the center of the city. Yeah, palace was the right word.

It was massive, with towering golden walls and colossal pillars that rose into the sky. But what truly caught his attention was the statue perched at the top.

It was a statue of their god, arms wide like he was welcoming applause, one leg raised dramatically, head tilted high with a smirk etched across his golden face.

The pose was almost unbearable to look at. Despite the clouds of crackling lightning covering most of the city, the statue still shone like a second sun.

Atticus fought back the urge to comment. He could already imagine how Whisker would’ve reacted. ’Well, he would’ve met the man personally...’

Clearing his thoughts, Atticus blurred and appeared at the entrance of the palace. It was even more grand and beautiful up close. But he hadn’t come here for beauty.

"Halt—!"

"Wait—!"

"Don’t m—!"

The instant he landed, he had already scanned the whole palace. Something was pulling him toward its center. frёeωebɳovel.com
