Awake for Love: My Coma Bridegroom novel Chapter 629

He stared at her in disbelief as she emerged. His heart was barely catching up with his actions as he instinctively moved towards her.

Scooping her up in his arms, he swiftly carried her into the shelter of the house. Although she’d only been caught in the rain for a few seconds, her face was dripping wet. Was it rain or was it tears?

“Violette, I never doubted you. If you say you didn’t do it, then I believe you,” he spoke gently, setting her down on the couch and crouching beside her. “Sarah is adamant that you’re the one who hurt her. If she calls the cops, they’ll come looking for you. I don’t want you to be treated like a suspect. If we can prove you weren’t there, they won’t have to bother you.”

Violette looked at his drenched figure and found she couldn’t bring herself to be angry.

“I went to see Adrian today.” Her voice held no trace of emotion. “I spent the entire day at his place.”

“You spent the day at his place?” Elijah’s soft gaze turned into a hard stare, and his tone was becoming terse.

“Yes. Are you going to ask what I was doing there?” Her clear eyes watched the changes on his face. Her heart was aching. “That’s my private business. I can’t tell you.”

It felt like a harsh blow in the dark. She had secrets with Adrian, secrets she couldn’t even share with him.

Elijah’s body went cold. He rose to leave. When he looked at her, his gaze held a mix of disappointment and sadness. His fists clenched, and he quickly left her.

This time, he left. He walked away without even looking back.

At 1 AM, Mike’s car pulled into the front yard. He stumbled out of the car after paying the driver. Mike’s drunk gaze caught sight of the front door ajar. The warm glow came from the living room. Violette was lying on the couch like a lifeless doll.

Soon, dawn broke. When Violette woke up, the events from last night flooded back.

Sarah’s eyes had been gouged out and she accused Violette. Sarah also claimed she heard Violette’s voice at the scene. To prove someone guilty, you need substantial evidence. And Sarah definitely didn’t have any against her.

Elijah wanted her to prove her innocence. Even though, legally, she didn’t have to, she couldn’t stand the injustice.

By noon, Elijah received a call from the chief of police.

“Mr. Bourne, Violette just came in with a male friend to submit surveillance footage from yesterday as her alibi. After we have reviewed it, it seems she spent the entire day at this gentleman’s house. She likely has nothing to do with Sarah’s incident. However...” The chief hesitated, “Mr. Bourne, it seems the relationship between Ms. Dennis and this gentleman is more than meets the eye.”
