By the time Melinda got the call and hurried over, the fight had already ended, because there was Joey, standing in the middle, keeping the two of them apart.
As the peacemaker, Joey had suffered collateral damage - his glasses were shattered and his face was injured.
“Brandon, come out!” Melinda’s voice was icy as she pulled Brandon away.
When Brandon was gone, Joey turned to Elijah. The fight had been a one-sided beating from Elijah to Brandon, with Brandon never throwing a punch back. This led Joey to the only possible conclusion - Brandon had upset Elijah. Otherwise, Elijah would never have raised his hand against Brandon. They had been good friends for many years, never once showing each other anything but camaraderie, let alone resorting to violence.
“Boss, what happened?” Joey winced as he asked, “Did Brandon betray you or something?”
Elijah clenched his fists, sinking into his chair. “Get out!” His head was throbbing and he had no idea what had occurred between Brandon and Violette. If Brandon could point out what Violette did wrong, he would not be this infuriated.
Once Joey had left, he headed towards Brandon and Melinda.
“All that I said to you last night, was it for nothing!?” Melinda scolded Brandon, “Are you trying to make this public? How does this help Elijah? I’m so disappointed in you!”
Brandon was studying his bruised face on his phone screen, indifferent to Melinda’s reprimands.
“I just had to fight with him, or I won’t feel right,” Brandon sounded slightly hurt. “Don’t worry. I didn’t bring up last night.”
Melinda let out a sigh of relief. “Your face is swollen. Go treat those bruises.”
“Oh, aren’t you coming with me?” Brandon sounded disappointed.
“You deserve it. I’m not accompanying you.” After her words, Melinda turned and walked towards Elijah’s office.
