Her memory was fragmented, sprinkled with missing pieces. She vaguely remembered a text from Odette. It was a cryptic message promising a surprise if she came over right away. But when she did, Odette was nowhere in sight. Then came the dizzying wave of nausea that pulled her into a deep sleep.
The room she woke up in was not the one she’d entered that afternoon. Who had moved her?
A creeping unease seeped into her heart. She swiftly grabbed her bag and made a beeline for the door.
Outside the hotel, she dialed Ramsey.
“Violette, Odette lost her phone. If someone calls or texts you asking for money, don’t lend it!” Ramsey warned as he answered.
“Oh... when did she lose her phone?” Violette felt a chill run down her spine.
“Around three in the afternoon.” Ramsey replied, “You didn’t get any weird messages, did you?”
Violette inhaled sharply. “Is Odette with you? I need to speak with her.”
“Sure, she’s upstairs. I’ll go fetch her.”
Moments later, Ramsey handed the phone to Odette.
“Violette! Oh my god! My phone was stolen! The thief is just horrible! I’ve reported it to the police, but they say it’s hard to retrieve. I’ve spent the entire afternoon dealing with this. There’s so much personal information in my phone...” Odette ranted.
“Your phone is with me.” Violette’s voice was icy. “Someone used your phone to lure me to the Caesar’s Palace.”
Odette said, “What?! Why would a thief lure you to a hotel? Violette, are you okay? Don’t scare me!”
“I’m okay.” Violette’s head was still spinning. “I didn’t see anyone after I arrived at the hotel. I think I was drugged and fell asleep. Besides the slight dizziness, I don’t feel anything else.”
“Violette, you need to go to the hospital and get checked out! This thief’s actions are too strange!”
