Chapter 226
“Watch where you’re going!” Jerome was infuriated.
After just having a close call with death, Mikayla was shocked back to her senses, and she was stunned by her behavior.
What was she doing? She couldn’t fathom her sudden outburst and her spiteful remark.
She figured she must’ve been brainwashed by Celeste. She’d begun to have her hopes up since Jerome. started to care for her and his reluctance to a divorce.
How terrifying was that?
Mikayla ignored him, and took a step back.
She calmly said, “We don’t have to go to the mall. Just go anywhere that sells those whole grain scones.”
Jerome thought she’d be furious at him and tell him to mind his own business. Yet, she seemed perfectly
composed.
Certainly, he preferred her this way. She wasn’t rowdy, and she was being sensible, making it easy
communicate with her.
When they got back into the car, he simply tossed the medicine bag on the dashboard.

They navigated their way to a traditional scone bakery. Their business was bustling, and there was a long
queue.
Mikayla was about to unbuckle her seatbelt when Jerome stopped her.
He glanced over at her thin clothing and said, “Stay in the car. I’ll buy them instead.”
She paused, and he got out of the car.
Her stomach was still feeling quite upset, so she opened the medicine bag and fished out the digestive
pills.
Her throat felt dry after the pills, so she took a bottle of mineral bottle from the car’s mini fridge.
In a haste, she spilled some water, splashing some of it on her and the seat.
She whisked out some tissues to wipe it off, but she accidentally knocked Kylie’s medicine to the floor.
The medicines were all separated in small transparent sachets where the dosage and name were labeled.
Mikayla’s gaze flitted across them as she picked them out.
She packed them back into the medicine bag after making sure that she didn’t spill any water on the
medicine.
She was on her phone when Jerome came back.
He settled himself behind the wheel, and noticed the wet stain and the bottle next to the dashboard.

“Have you taken the digestive pills?”
Mikayla nodded absently.
They spent the ten minutes of their journey back to the resort in silence, not even bothering to strike al conversation with each other.
Jerome offered to send her back to her guest room after they got out of the car, and she didn’t refuse.
They met a couple of the Miller Group’s employees on their way back, and they all greeted them. Some
bolder ones even complimented on how good they look together.
She plastered a courteous smile on her face, finally understanding why he persuaded her to join him at
Riverside Resort.
He was aware of the rumors that circulated when she was left behind at the party last time. He wanted to let them know that there was nothing wrong between them.
