Spending The Night With Another Woman.

Kira kept her nose to the grindstone and slogged through stacks of reading materials.
She kind of enjoyed the work once she got the hang of it..
Though occasionally, Kira cast a longing glance at the shorter and older building across the street.
It housed the staff of Stamford Daily.
Hera
application for a summer internship there had been efficiently and firmly declined.
But hope springs eternal.
Kira still checked the newspaper’s online recruitment page now and then.
Maybe they would soon be looking for winter break interns.
Her phone started vibrating-
Kira checked the incoming message.
It was from Liam Cane.
‘Are you off work?”
Kira typed, ‘No. Doing overtime today.”
‘Have you had dinner?‘
“Yes, if a chicken ham with cheese sandwich counts as dinner.”
‘It doesn’t. You need a proper meal. How about seafood? My treat.
The message came with a smiley face emoji
Kira replied with a winking face. ‘I thought it was my turn to treat.‘
“Then come out for dinner. I’ll let you get the cheque.”
Kira’s fingers hovered above the phone screen.
Then she typed, ‘Sorry, I have work to do. Maybe another time?‘
She tossed her phone aside and went back to her work–in–progress report.
She and Lexi were scheduled to give a presentation to Mariana and Paul in Friday’s staff meeting.
There was no time to waste.
Her phone had gone quiet.
Liam tapped a finger on his phone.
He’d lost count of the number of times Kira turned down his Invitation for dinner.
It was the first time a woman was immune to his, by and large, infallible charm.
He’d thought that for a girl her age, Innocence and gullibility often went hand in hand.
But Kira Hewitt might be the exception that proved the rule.
Getting Kayleigh Woods into bed, on the other hand, had been a piece of cake.
Liam decided that he might have to go at this from another angle.
Kira reached the villa at half past nine.

‘Where’s Young Master?‘ Elsie greeted her with a question.
“Huh? How should I know?” Kira changed into house slippers. ‘He’s not back yet?‘
“No.”
ส
Kira shrugged. ‘Maybe he’s busy with work. He runs a huge company and must have a lot on his plate.
Elsie gave her a strange look.
‘What? Is there something on my face??
‘Aren’t you worried about him?”
‘About what? His safety? But Mr Scott’s usually with him. And he’s a grown man. He can take care of himself. Besides, it’s not like anybody will dare to rob him.‘
‘Aren’t you worried that he might… Elsie checked herself.
She was aware of Young Master’s involvement with the actress
Though it wasn’t her place to say anything, Elsie couldn’t help but feel sorry for Kira, a girl young enough to be her daughter.
Kira linked arms with the housekeeper and pretended not to understand the rest of her unsaid sentence. ‘He used to stay out all the time. I’m used to it.”
Elsie sighed. ‘But things are different now.‘
“How so?”
‘I might be old, but I’m not blind.‘ Elsie patted Kira’s arm. ‘You and Young Master have grown quite close recently.‘
Kira declined to comment.
The housekeeper shook her head and smiled to herself.
Youngsters nowadays could be quite stubborn.
Young Master was too proud to put his feelings for Young Madam in words..
And Young Madam didn’t seem like the type to wear her heart on her sleeve, either.
The two were clearly drawn to each other, but both refused to admit it.
‘Elsie, you have a front–row seat to this so–called marriage,‘ Kira finally spoke up. ‘It’s legal, and that’s all there is to it. Love is not part of the equation.”
Elsie opened her mouth, but she could offer no comeback.
What Kira said was true.
Young Master had not entered this marriage with any romantic notions.
‘So, Elsie, I don’t ask what he’s doing out or when he’s coming back, not because I don’t care, but because I don’t have the right to.”
Kira squeezed the housekeeper’s hand. ‘I’ve had a long day. I think I’m going to take a shower and then turn in. Good night, Elsie.”
‘Good night, Young Madam.‘
Elsie watched Kira head upstairs.
It was
such a shame.
The two were so right for each other.

If only they could find a way to make it work…
