you want ΠΕ
ne to?”
‘Of course I do! It’s just that you haven’t spent the night here for so long, I was…For a moment, I couldn’t believe what I heard.‘
Austyn reached out a hand and touched her cheek.
It was such a gentle, loving touch that it almost melted her heart.
She closed her eyes, savouring the moment.
Then suddenly remembering something, she shoved his hand away. ‘I…I haven’t showered.‘
She kept her eyes on the floor, afraid the look in them might give her away.
Austyn pulled her down onto the sofa, his body hovering above hers.
Kayleigh grasped the collar of her robe. ‘Austyn…‘
He paused when he glimpsed a patch of dark blue on her neck.
Sweeping her hand aside, Austyn took in the bruises and hickeys covering her neck and between her collarbones.
You’re Not Under Arrest
Kayleigh shuddered.
Liam had left the marks on her.
She thought she was going to die when she overheard his secret.
But he didn’t kill her.
Instead, he had sex with her.
It was rougher and more intense than all the previous times.
The man showed no mercy and kept going when she begged him to stop.
He pinned her wrists above her head and rammed into her on the sofa.
Hence the bruises.
But she couldn’t let Austyn know this.
Licking her lips, which had suddenly gone dry, she said, ‘It was…it was work. I had to shoot some intimate scenes. My character was breaking up with the male lead. He didn’t want to let go. Then he got a bit rough…It was just kissing. That’s all, I swear!‘
Austyn fastened his gaze on the bruises.
Kayleigh’s heart was beating so loudly, she was afraid he might hear it.
‘Be more careful next time,‘ he finally said, before pulling her collar close.
‘Okay.”
Kayleigh breathed out.
If he’d insisted on taking off her robe, he would have seen that it was definitely more than just kissing.
Sensing he was not angry, Kayleigh grew bolder.
She wrapped an arm around his neck to draw him in. ‘Austyn, I’m…I’m ready.”
He brushed her hand away and stood up. ‘It’s getting late. You should get some rest. I’ll see myself out.”
Kayleigh sat up and stared at his back. ‘Is it because of the bruises? But I’m fine. I can… Don’t you…don’t you want me?”
‘No‘ Austyn paused at the door. ‘I was just checking.”
Checking to see if he could get excited by another woman’s body.
That woman in Farindon was a complete stranger and a prostitute.
It was understandable that he wouldn’t be interested in her.
Maybe the lack of interest had nothing to do with Kira.
A good businessman never rushed to conclusions without enough data, so Austyn decided to conduct another test.
Kayleigh didn’t understand.
What was he checking?
Checking up on her?
Was he disappointed by what he’d found?
Was that why he was leaving?
She wanted to ask him to clarify, but Austyn had already turned away.
His hand was on the doorknob when he remembered something.
Kayleigh perked up when she saw him stop.
Maybe he’d changed his mind.
She undid the belt on her robe.
‘One more thing, Kayleigh,‘ Austyn said from the door. ‘I hope you’ll stay away from Kira from now onwards. This is the last time I’m telling you this.”
His gaze was direct, his tone even, and he’d used his indoor voice.
But Kayleigh understood the implied warning-
Her hand froze.
The beginning of a smile faded.
She sat stock still.
“You know what you’ve done,‘ Austyn continued. ‘If it were anyone else, they would’ve disappeared from Stamford over the weekend. But I allowed you to stay in showbiz because of your brother. I hope you keep that in mind.‘
Austyn watched Kayleigh’s face.
He hoped she got the message, for her own sake.
There was not going to be a next time.
‘Good night.‘
Austyn left, shutting the door gently.
Kayleigh clenched her fists.
When she was sure Austyn was gone, she screamed, picked up a water glass on the coffee table and smashed it on the ground.
When that didn’t help, she went on to break everything in sight.
“Shoot! I overslept!‘
Kira woke up to find it was already nine o’clock in the morning.
She practically fell out of the bed and dashed into the bathroom.
Halfway through brushing her teeth, she realised that it was Saturday.
She rinsed her mouth, padded to the bed and lay back down, planning to sleep in.
She slept right through breakfast and lunch.
Giana met her at one pm.
“You should’ve stayed home,” Kira said. “The doctor said you needed plenty of rest.
“Oh please.” Giana rolled her eyes. “That was more than a week ago. III stay in bed any longer, I’m going to forget how
to use my legs. Now come on. There’s a new boutique on Sixth Avenue I want to check out.‘
Kira went along, nodding at every outfit Giana tried on. You look amazing.”
