Can we trust him?”
‘I think so.”
וי
‘Can I get out now?”
“I think it’s too late for that now.”
Kira pointed at the rear car window.
It had a wire mesh over it.
Half an hour later, the police cruiser stopped outside a shooting range in the suburbs.
Have Your Cake And Eat It Too
Its name was short and to the point–The Gun Club.
A uniformed guard at the front entrance waved at Luca and raised the barrier.
Luca parked the car in a basement carpark.
He got out.
Kira and Giana followed.
‘Captain O’Neill, what is this place?‘ Kira asked.
“Call
me Luca. This, ladies, is a place for fun. I was under orders to bring you here.”
“Whose orders?”
‘Damian. Now, come on, he’s waiting for us.‘ Luca headed for the lift.
‘Who’s Damian? Giana whispered.
‘A friend of Austyn’s.
“Why does he want to see you?”
“I honestly have no idea.”
Kira had met the man just once.
He’d made quite an impression, not because of his good looks–though he did have that, but because he kept looking at Kira in a strange way.
What could he want with her?
The Gun Club’s membership was by invitation only.
Without the right connections, even a billionaire would be stopped at the door.
Kira had been living in Stamford for three years now and had never known such a place existed.
Luca led Kira and Giana past smoking lounges, private dining rooms, a trophy room and the armoury.
The girls gawked at a wall lined with ancient weapons–swords, tridents, axes, bows and arrows, polearms and a lot more they couldn’t recognise.
Luca took them to one of the outdoor shooting ranges.
It had a resting area with round tables and chairs, shielded from the sun with big colourful parasols.
A waiter served snacks and iced tea.
“Help yourselves,‘ Luca said. ‘Damian is on the range. I’ll go get him.”
“Okay.” Kira nodded.
“Are you sure this is a good idea?‘ Glana said when Luca was out of earshot. ‘How well do you know these people?”
*Remember I told you that a kind officer got us out of fall and got you to the hospital?”
“Yeali?‘
“That was him, Captain Luca O’Neill. You were barely conscious back then, so you probably don’t remember seeing his
face
“That was him? Why didn’t you tell me earlier? I should have thanked him.‘
E
“I tried to, but you were busy trying on your hundredth necklace.”
Giana reached for her phone. ‘We still owe him a thank–you dinner. Let me check if I can get a place at Takayama.”
‘Hold your horses. Let’s ask him if he’s free tonight. No point booking a restaurant if he can’t make it.‘
‘Okay,‘ Giana put away her phone. ‘I’ve never been to a shooting range before. This is so cool. Do you think we get to shoot stuff later?”
Luca didn’t see Damian.
Austyn was there, aiming a Sig Sauer P320 at a paper target 25 metres away.
‘Shit.‘ Luca immediately turned on his heel.
He hadn’t told Austyn he was bringing Kira here.
Nor did he know Austyn was going to be here.
the corner of his music.
his eye. ‘Come here.”
“Where are you going?‘ Austyn had seen him out of 11
Luca dragged his feet.
