‘Get your mind out of the gutter!‘ she wrested her collar from his hold. This is broad daylight!‘
‘No one’s here.”
Kira glimpsed a figure stepping out of the lift and approaching the car.
‘Someone’s here!!
She unbuckled her seat belt in one move, pushed open the door and jumped out with a speed that surprised even
herself.
‘Captain O’Neill!‘ She ran up to Luca, panting.
Austyn pulled back, watching her run away like she was being chased by a ghost.
Luca halted. ‘What’s wrong?”
‘N…nothing. Kira straightened up after she caught her breath.
No way was she going to tell him what Austyn wanted to do to her in the car.
“Before I forget, the shopping bags we left in your car–did Glana take them with her when she left?”
‘I don’t think so. I didn’t even know your friend left. Let me go and check.”
“Thank you.”
Austyn remained in the Hummer.
Kira leaned against the wall, waiting for Luca to come back from his car.
She examined the other cars parked there and pretended not to notice a certain someone was staring a hole in her back.
Austyn’s phone rang.
“You better have something important,‘ Austyn barked into the phone.
He’d asked Kai not to disturb him this afternoon.
The assistant knew better than to disobey a direct order.
Kai had been prepared for his boss‘ irritation.
But he had to make the call.
It was too important to wait.
Kai licked his lips and braced himself for the storm he knew was coming. ‘Boss, there’s something you should know.”
“Is it the old codger Michael again?”
After that unpleasant encounter with Helen Vaughn and Georgina Vaughn at the hospital, Austyn had given an order to make a move on Veron Enterprise, owned by Michael Vaughn.
Kira’s mother and half–sister wouldn’t have the energy to make trouble for her once they had the rug pulled from
under them.
When the M Group’s president gave the word, clients and contractors of Veron Enterprise snapped to it.
Contracts were cancelled.
Negotiations were postponed indefinitely.
Potential deals were put on ice.
Within two weeks, revenue streams of Veron Enterprise were all but dried up.
Michael had come to the M Group’s headquarters more than once, begging for a meeting with the president.
But security threw him out every time.
