Get Your Story Straight
Austyn unbuttoned his cufflinks and rolled up his sleeves. ‘Since you are so intent to charge me with the crime, I might as well make it count.‘
“What are you doing? Kira inched away from him.
‘Aah!‘ She yelped.
The man bent his knees, threw both arms around her waist and hoisted her over his shoulders.
He carried her upside down like she was a sandbag.
Kira’s face collided with the man’s stomach. ‘Put me down!”
Austyn ignored her, pulled the door open and came out of the bedroom.
Giana dashed for the bedroom when she heard Kira’s scream, but Kai blocked her.
‘Move aside!‘
She was about to give the man a low roundhouse kick when the door opened.

‘As you can see,‘ Kai said, clearing his throat, ‘Young Madam is fine. Don’t worry, Miss Mills. Boss will never hurt her.”
“You call that fine?” Giana wanted to help her friend, but she didn’t know where to start.
Kira’s buttocks were resting on Austyn’s shoulder.
Her face was buried in the man’s shirt.
Her voice came out muffled. ‘Giana, help!‘
‘Mr McCarthy.‘ Glana planted herself in front of Austyn. Please put her down.‘
‘Miss Mills, this is a family matter. Please get out of my way.‘
‘Put her down first!‘
Kira felt blood rushing to her face. ‘Help!‘
She pelted Austyn’s chest with her fists, but the man had thick muscles and barely felt the impact.
She groped blindly and felt she’d grabbed something.
His arm.
Kira sank her teeth into his biceps.
She couldn’t even penetrate the darned fabric.
All it earned her was a slap on her buttocks.
‘Ow!!
“If you won’t get out of the way…‘ Austyn said to Glapa, running a hand suggestively over Kira’s backside. ‘I may be forced to borrow your bedroom. The bed is small, but I think it’ll do.”
Giana was blushing furiously. I don’t…it’s not…What do you….
‘I’m her husband. She’s my wife.‘ Austyn’s hand didn’t stop. ‘What do you think we’ll do in the bedroom?
Kira felt her cheeks burning up.
She didn’t dare move.
The more she struggled, the more shameless the man got.
Kai looked away.
Giana took a step to the side.
She gave Kira a helpless look.
She tried, but the enemy was too strong.
Austyn, triumphant, moved past her.
‘Giana!‘ Kira tried to raise her head when she realised Austyn was moving. ‘Help!‘
‘Sorry.” Giana shrugged and spread out her hands.
“I’m getting kidnapped!”
“You’re just going home,‘ Giana said. ‘Your husband’s right, this is a family matter. My hands are tied.”
She chased after Austyn. ‘Mr McCarthy, will you promise not to hurt Kira?‘
‘Don’t worry, Miss Mills,” Kai said. ‘Boss will never lay a finger on a woman, let alone his wife.”
‘But I–Kira’s plea for help was cut off as the door shut behind her.
Austyn strode towards the lift.
Kira hoped a neighbour could see them and come to her rescue, but the man walked too fast.
‘Bastard! Put me down this instant!‘
Kai jogged ahead to summon the lift.
‘Help! Somebody! Call the police! I’m getting kidnapped!”
Austyn patted her buttocks. ‘Be quiet.
This is domestic violence! I’m going to sue you!‘
Kira’s voice was hoarse from all the shouting.
‘Is it kidnapping or domestic violence?‘ Austyn slapped her butt again. ‘You should get your story straight before you call the police.”
Bastard!
Kira was carried into the lift like a sack of potatoes.
Austyn didn’t let go until he was at the car.
Kai opened the rear left door.
Kira was plonked onto the backseat.
The door was slammed shut.
Austyn stood next to the Hummer, talking to Kai.
Kira finally caught her breath.
When blood rushed back to the rest of her body, some sense of calm returned.
What was she doing?
She’d seen how Austyn acted in the restaurant.
Why was she provoking him now?
She thought she would be scared of him when she saw him again, but when he leaned in and she smelled his familiar scent, she reverted to her old attitude towards him.
Gat Your Story Straight
She even called him a bastard.
Kira sat up in the seat and straightened out her clothes.
The front car door was pulled open and then banged shut.
Austyn got in the driver’s seat.
Kira looked out the window,
Kai had disappeared.
Kira kept quiet.
She could see Austyn was still mad, probably at her prison break attempt.
The rims of his eyes were red.
He was breathing heavily.
Kira shrank back in her seat.
Austyn noticed her move in the rearview mirror.
Her shoulder was pressed against the car window, as far away from him as possible.
His face grew colder.
‘Come here,” he ordered.
