Kira stared at him.
Gideon got his wind back.
He closed the door gently.
He squatted in front of Kira, held up her slender ankle with one hand and placed the ice pack
on it.
When he looked up, he was smiling.
‘What are you smiling at?‘ Kira frowned.
Did
Did her injury amuse him?
‘Nothing. I’m just happy to find you were still here when I got back.”
Did he think she was going to run off?
Was that why he ran all the way back?
Gideon’s hand was numb from the cold, but he didn’t care.
He was just relieved.
And happy.
She hadn’t disappeared like the previous times.
Kira said nothing.
She forced herself to focus on her ankle.
Pain was a welcome distraction at this point.
After a long while of silence, Gideon said, ‘How’s your dad doing?”
Kira turned to look at her father’s sleeping face.
Gideon used to call her father Mr Hewitt, then Leland.
