He thought she had been taken in by his words. 

But she was just coolly assessing the truth of his statement. 

Once again, he had underestimated her. 

“Even lie detectors are not hundred per cent effective.‘ Liam made a last–ditch effort to convince her. ‘How can you place your trust in something as unreliable as a pulse? It my heart is not racing, then I must be lying? What other reactions must I show? Flushed checks? A stammer?”
