It wasn’t his fault. 

Liam shoved the door open. 

He caught up with Kira in a few big strides and grabbed her wrist 

‘Do you know what it’s like to be ten years old and cry yourself to sleep every night?‘ He shouted at her. “To have nightmares every night? Do you know how it feels to live in fear every day? To watch Austyn celebrate his birthdays with both parents while I had to hide in my room? 

Kira winced in pain. 

Liam was hurting her. 

She tried to pry his hand off but couldn’t. 

“You don’t understand how it feels to live the life I had. You’ll never understand. So don’t you dare judge me!” 

He pulled her closer. “You think your Austyn’s so brave and honest. Is that why you love him? Because he’s not a scheming, lying bastard like me? But he was brought up that way! He was taught to be that way! What about me? I had no one! I had nothing! 

He was ranting, breathing heavily. 

He had a terrifying, almost deranged look in his eyes. 

‘Liam Cane!‘ Kira pushed his chest as hard as she could. ‘Let me go!! 

He kept up his vice–like grip on her wrist. 

‘Anyone would want a life like Austyn’s. To be born with a silver spoon, to be doted on by both parents. Fate has been so kind to him. But me? I was the pauper to his prince. Don’t hate. Let it go. Easy for you to say. I doubt he can do much better if he were in my shoes!” Liam stroked her cheek. ‘I wish I could be as respectable as him, as honest. I wish I could be admired and well–liked, like him. But fate has dealt me a lousy hand, Kira. Unlike him, I had to fight tooth and nail for everything I own today, using whatever means necessary. You can’t blame me for trying to survive. 

His face softened. 

He leaned in. 

‘If honesty is what you 

like, I can give you that. Ki 

that. Kira, I can change for you. I’ll be whatever you want me to be… 

He gazed into her eyes. 

He gave her a disarming smile, his voice beguiling 

‘I may have approached you with…dishonourable intentions, but I can change, Kira. I just need you to teach me how. I’ve fallen so deeply and madly in love with you. If you’ll only show me how, I’ll change. For you
