She knew she was fully awake and lucid, but she still couldn’t believe what she was seeing
Sensing m
movement, the man turned his head.
Their eyes locked, unleashing memories of their shared past.
Kira forgot to breathe
He started walking towards her.
A little uncertain at first.
Then he picked up his pace.
He recognised her.
Kira wanted to run, but her legs had taken root in the floor.
She couldn’t move a muscle.
It was a short hallway, but he was out of breath by the time he stopped in front of her, panting
‘K.. Kira?
Gideon called out her name softly, scared that she might vanish like a mirage if he raised his voice.
Kira felt something cold on her cheeks.
Her hand went to her face mechanically.
hadn’t realised she was crying.
Just one word in his familiar voice was enough to send her over the edge.
It was really him
Gideon
Was he the man who had visited her father in the past two days?
How did he know to come here?
What was he doing here?
Kira tried to reboot her brain.
“Kira!‘
Gideon pulled her into his arms for a fierce hug.
This was his fourth visit in two days.
It had finally paid off.
He was growing impatient, thinking Liam had pulled a fast one on him,
But he’d checked, the man lying in the room w
was Leland Hewitt, a man who had been like a father to him.
He was cooling his heels in the hallway, hoping for a miracle.
Then something told him to look up.
He raised his head, turned to the right, and there she was, as large as life.
When he left her, she was eighteen, on the cusp of womanhood.
Now she’d blossomed into a beautiful, breathtaking woman
Gideon tightened his grip.
He was almost crushing her.
He had to use that much force to confirm he was holding on to an actual person in flesh and blood and not an illusion.
Kira was getting light–headed from lack of oxygen,
Her brain was still blank
At the other end of the hallway, two nurses stopped at the sight of the two figures locked in an embrace
They pointed and whispered.
One of them recognised Kira.
Kira
saw the look on the nurse’s face and came to her senses.
She shoved Gideon away.
‘Boss, here’s the profile on Revency.”
Kai gathered the intel overnight.
He stood in the president’s office, stifling a yawn.
Austyn had roused him out of bed at 2 am and given him the name of the company.
He had to pull an all–nighter.
Austyn took the folder from Kai.
Revency was registered as a media and entertainment company.
It was incorporated in Stamford three years ago
per thousand, unique reach, site visits and so on
It had done more than just gain a foothold in the industry, with its key metrics–cost per th -outperforming some of the more established companies.
Revency had opted for both organic and inorganic growth, expanding its product offerings as well as acquiring smaller competitors..
All signs pointed to the company’s ambition to reach the top
Austyn drummed a finger on the desk as he skimmed the profile.
‘Mergers and acquisitions are a money guzzler. Revency has already acquired two studios.‘
‘And in talks to buy the third,‘ added Kai. ‘It’s not confirmed yet, so I didn’t put it in the report.”
‘Okay, so they have deep pockets. Where did Liam get so much money?”
Venture capitalists were sharks.
They were not going to throw money at the company j
company just because Liam was the second son of the McCarthy family.
Austyn suspected his father might have given Liam more–than–generous pocket money over the years, but that was nowhere near th startup capital required to break into the media industry.
the
Kai said, ‘Liam Cane has a vice president, his second in command. The man seems to have a hand in setting up the company as well as in pushing the deals through. His name on the corporate registration form is Sean Santoro. But I can’t find anything else on him.”
‘So Cane has found a backer, someone to write the cheques and pull the strings. No wonder he can rise so quickly.”
Kai ventured a guess. ‘He has been living abroad for several years. Maybe that’s where he found his backer.” Austyn agreed with Kai’s assessment.
Liam was staying away and running Revency from behind the scenes.
If he’d shown his face in Stamford three years
Austyn would have crushed Revency like a bug.
Austyn leaned back in his leather chair and closed his eyes.
Revency was about four times bigger than Veron Enterprise, but Austyn could bring the media company to its knees just as easily. “Keep an eye on Revency and Cane,‘ he said after a while. ‘Let’s see what tricks he still has up his sleeve.‘
“Yes, Bloss
Kal was about to leave the office
“Wait.”
‘Yes, Boss?
“You handled all the paperwork when I married Kira.”
‘Yes.‘
‘Does she have a brother?” Austyn asked with a straight face.
Kira told him Gideon was the neighbour’s kid.
But a man’s intuition told Austyn that there was more to the story.
The way she said Gideon’s name in her sleep was so poignant, her voice filled with longing
Growing up, Austyn had his fair share of playmates.
