She Has No Proof
Still, Owen was filled will misgivings.
She dragged her feet on her way back into the wand.
She paused at the door
“Jason, we need to talk about the wedding reception. It’s less than a month away.”
Her parting words successfully elicited a response from Kia, whose head snapped up.
“You..you’re getting married? With with her?”
The sight of the woman’s tears sent a sharp pang through Austyn’s heart,
He shook off that strange, unfamiliar feeling and nodded.
owen and I have been engaged for a while now, it’s time to make it official.‘
Kira looked down and seemed to have just noticed the engagement ring on his left hand.
She blinked several times.
The ring was still there.
“You really don’t remember who I am?‘ Kina stared up at him.
Austynno, jason–shook his head. ‘Nope. Sony.”
Kira refused to give up. ‘No recollection at all?!
Kira’s voice shook “What.. what happened to you?”
Austyn parsed his lips.
After a long moment of silence, he said, “I don’t remember anything about my past.
What?
His words were no less shocking then the news of his upcoming nuptials.
“You lost your memory?”
In the past four years, Loca, Jesse and Damians had not given up on the search for Austyn.
After the official search was called off, they’d meet up sometimes and speculate on his whereabouts.
They presented the best–case scenarios and the worst–case scenarios.
Luca, hardened by his experience as a police officer, was the first one to mention the possibility of death.
Tf Austyn was still alive, he argued, he would have returned to Stamford by now, or at least he would have contacted them
Kira didn’t low how to refute Laca’s logic, but neither did she agree with him.
She still held out hope.
Just like that saying ‘Nobody, no crime, if there wasn’t a body, she refused to believe Austyn was dead.
Now, it all made sense.
Austyni was alive, but he hadn’t returned to Stanford because he’d lost his memory.
Kira was overwhelmed by that discovery
If he didn’t recognise her, how was she supposed to bring him home?
She sank to her lowes and sobbed.
Austyn looked at the woman who was crying in public like a child.
She seemed cushed when he said he didn’t recognise her.
Somehow, seeing her like this produced a dull ache in his heart.
He almost reached out a hand to comfort her, but he caught himself:
What was he doing?
He never thought of himself as the type to be easily swayed by a woman’s tears.
Yet, he couldn’t help feeling her pain vicariously
Her tears made him guilty, as if he was the one to blame.
Austyn cleared his throat and looked away.
He waited for the woman’s crying to subside into snivelling before asking, ‘Miss, are we acquainted?”
Kira wiped away her tears and looked up at him with red–rimmed eyes.
The question cut her to the quick
They weren’t just acquaintances.
They were so much more.
She got up slowly.
When she swayed on her feet, Austyn almost shot out an arm to steady her.
Kira fixed her gaze on his face.
‘I’m your wife.‘
Anstyn’s eyes widened slightly.
“Looks like you’ve forgotten about that, too. ‘Kira was crestfallen.
Austyn knitted his brows.
“I don’t recall anything about my past more than four years ago.”
He scrutinised Kira’s face.
She didn’t look like she was lying.
Her sadness seemed gemine.
“Are we really.husband and wife?”
“Can you prove that?‘
Kira’s mouth hung open
Proof?
Austin’s eyes came to rest on Kira’s hands.
She had smell, delicate hands
Her nails were neatly trimmed,
