Kira realised Austyn was right. 

Her arins were sore from sleeping inside a cramped car. 

She handed over Joshua to Austyn. 

He carried two kids effortlessly and didn’t put them down until they’d reached Kira’s apartment. 

He walked into the bedroom and laid down the twins on the big bed. 

His movement was so gentle, both kids were still fast asleep. 

Kira watched him tuck them in 

He planted a kiss on Jennie’s forehead, then on Joshua’s. 

‘Don’t they need to get washed up before bed” he whispered after he closed the door. 

‘Then why didn’t you wake them up? Kira asloed. 

Austyn fell silent. 

He couldn’t bear to disturb the kids. 

‘It’s fine,” Kira said. ‘They’ll wake up after a couple of hours. I’ll got them to brush their teeth then. There’s no school tomorrow, so they can sleep in.” Austyn nodded. 

They were now standing in the living room in awkward silence. 

Neither know what to say. 

Austyn checked his watch. 

It was past ten pm 

‘It’s getting late, Kira said “I won’t keep you then.! 

Austyn shook his head. ‘I’m not going back to the hotel‘ 

“Then where are you going to sleep? 

‘Here.” 

‘What?‘ Kira’s eyes widened. 

‘You’ve got two bedrooms, don’t you?” 

‘But they are for me and the kids.‘ 

“You can take the bigger bedroom. I’ll take the smaller one.” 

Kira crossed her arms. I only allowed you to spend the night here yesterday because you fainted. You look fine to me now.! 

“I’m still feeling feverish, Austyn fibbed 

“Really? Kira eyed him up and down 

“Uh–huh.” 

“But you were so eager to leave last time…” 

A thought suddenly occurred to her. ‘Have you got your memory back?” 

“Sorry to disappoint you, but no, I haven’t‘ Austyn kept a straight face. 

Kira’s face fell. ‘Oh. Then why do you want to stay here tonight?‘ 

“It’s late. I’m tired. I don’t want the hassle of travelling back to the hotel.” 

Austyn didn’t miss the crestfallen book on her face. ‘Are you hoping I’d recovered my memory?” 

Kira nodded. 

“Is the old me better than this version of me?” 

“Yes,‘ she answered without thinking. ‘You used to be overbearing, bad–tempered, difficult to get along with ‘ 

Austyn snorted. “Then why do you still prefer the old me? 

‘Because that’s still ten times better than this current version of you. You are a Austyn shook his head, exasperated. ‘I’m still mel both versions are me 

aloot and cold and distant. I don’t like this version.” 

Kira just shrugged.

There was no point arguing with him. 

Anyway, why did you stop sending me bento boxes back in Rinton? 

How did you know it was ma?” 

“It’s not a difficult guess. 

“Why would you care? Kita looked away, “You didn’t like the food anyway.‘ 

A secretary at the company told her to stop sending food to the company, 

Kira persisted for a few more days, but gave up when the secretary told her that Austyn never once touched the food, Kira muttered, ‘It doesn’t matter anymore. 

Austyn cleared his throat, feeling a little embarrassed. 

“Back in Rinton, you suddenly showed up out of nowhere and claimed to be my wife. Of course I would be put on guard. 

He even thought she might be a stalker or a crazy person 

It had happened to him before. 

Austyn was once waylaid by a stranger who escaped from a mental hospital. 

The woman claimed Austyn was her boyfriend and refused to let him go until she was hauled away by her doctor.

Kira rolled her eyes at him “Are you calling me crazy?!

That earned him another eye roll. 

Austyn smiled. ‘There was one night when you refused to leave my apartment. Even spent the night in the hallway outside. I can’t be blamed for drawing the wrong conclusion‘ 

He turned serious when he recalled the incident. ‘You shouldn’t have done that. Do you low how dangerous it could be? 

Kira muttered under her breath. ‘How could there be danger when I’m with you?”
