She wasn’t a saint..
She shouldn’t feel sorry for that man.
But she also didn’t want to get mixed up in whatever Austyn was doing
So she just stepped around him and left the living room
Austyn looked at her with a frown.
The twins were fast asleep.
Kira kept glancing towards the tightly shut bedroom door.
No one came knocking.
She stared at the ceiling in the darkness, trying to process the mixed bag of emotions coiling in her heart.
She was happy to find him alive, of course.
But now that the guilt of causing his disappearance was gone, her grief returned in full force,
She would never get over her father’s death, and Austyn was indirectly responsible.
When she looked at him, she saw both the man she loved and the man whose father murdered hers.
But she also saw the father of her kids.
Even if she wanted a clean break from him, could she do that to the kids?
Could she bear to take them away from their father?
Would that be too selfish?
Kira never told the kids what happened to the grandfather they never got the chance to meet–they were too young to understand.
To them, especially to Jennie, Austyn was their father who had just returned after a long time of absence.
Should Kira take him back for the sake of the lads?
But what about his fiancée?
Kira tossed and turned in bed until gradually, the drifted off.
When she opened her eyes again, she almost jumped up from the bed when she saw a man staring at her.
Austyn was sitting at the edge of the bed.
Yellow light from a streetlamp outside the window cast his face in a lazy halo.
Kira blinked.
It was so quiet in the bedroom, they could hear each other’s breathing.
Kira relaxed and exhaled slowly.
Hus Dark Side
She whispered, “What are you doing?”
‘Watching you sleep‘
Kira was at a loss for words. ‘But…why?”
“I can’t sleep‘
“Uh, how long have you been here?”
He checked his watch. ‘Half an hour.”
He knocked but she didn’t hear it.
The door wasn’t locked.
He came in to ask if it was time for the kids to brush their teeth, but he saw Kira’s peaceful sleeping face.
She looked so serene, and the kids were dead to the world.
He didn’t have the beart to wake them.
Time To Reconsider His Engagement
Kira had no idea what to say.
She sat up in bed.
‘I met Kai Scott today,” Austyn said.
“You did?‘
“He used to be my assistant?
Kira nodded. ‘Your right–hand man. What did you guys talk about?‘
‘About the M Group, about the McCarthy family, and about you.‘ Austyn stared fixedly at her. “He told me you are my
wife.!
‘I told you so‘ Kira wanted to roll her eyes. “You thought I was crazy. Do you believe me now? Austyn chuckled. I also went back to the villa at Ardmore Park,‘
