It might’ve been a simple plan, but he had even thought of my escape route after I faked my death. How awesome!
Time To Settle Old Scores
Kira said nothing
Austyn held back a sigh. “Thank you.”
Kira’s eyelashes trembled.
She looked down at the quilt, refusing eye contact with Austyn.
Of course, she had been worried.
The sight of Austyn lying in a pool of blood was a painful reminder of her father, who never woke up again after that car accident.
Kira was deathly afraid the same was going to happen to Austyn.
She didn’t sleep a wink last night and kept putting a finger under his nose, just to check if he was still breathing.
“Can I have some water?” Austyn asked.
Kira picked up the pitcher on the bedside table and poured him a glass of water.
She held it next to his mouth and tilted the glass, feeding him slowly.
Austyn kept up his steady gaze on her face.
Kira looked away.
He traced the outline of her face with his eyes, drinking in the view.
Before yesterday, she was a stranger to him.
He kept a wary distance, despite what the marriage certificate told him.
But now that he’d regained his memory, she was his wife, separated from him for four, long years.
He was dying to hold her in his arms, to kiss those lips he’d missed so much, and to tell her that he was back
But he had to restrain himself.
He didn’t want to scare her.
Kira squirmed under his intense gaze. “Why are you staring at me?!
“Because you are beautiful,‘ Austyn said honestly
Kira was stunned.
Was he flirting with her?
Her hands shook a little
Water spilt out from the glass and splashed onto his face.
Drops of it dripped down his cheeks onto his hospital gown.
Kira gawked at him. ‘Are you…What’s wrong with you?”
This was
unlike him.
A possibility occurred to her.
Her eyes lit up.
‘Did you…did you get back your memory?”
Otherwise, why would he look at her
as
if h
he wanted to devour her?
And why would he flirt with her?
Kira searched his face for clues, but Austyn gave nothing away.
He shook his head ‘Sorry, no.”
Kira’s face fell.
It was discouraging to hear the same news over and over again.
