He took in Austyn’s pale face and the circle of gauze around his forehead. 

He turned to Kira. ‘So he’s the one injured? The kids are fine?” 

Kira was struggling to break free of Austyn’s vice–like grip, but her efforts were in vain. 

She heard Gideon’s question. “The kids are fine.” 

Gideon breathed out, relieved. ‘Good to know.” 

Their brief exchange irritated Austyn, whose face grew darker.
