Kira’s ears were ringing. 

Before he erupted, Kira pointed to her left leg. ‘She kicked me on the calf.” 

e also had scratch marks all over her arms, thanks to Georgina’s dagger–like fingernails.

Austyn took in every wound. 

He knew how tender and sensitive her fair skin was. 

If he kissed her just a little too hard in the bedroom, she woke up with red welts all over her body, like someone had abused her. 

But he’d never left marks as deep and horrifying as those. 

Some of the scratches broke skin. 

Blood was slowly seeping out 

Austyn felt as if someone had reached a hand into his chest and grabbed his heart in a chokehold. He was breathing faster. 

The beast in his heart beat against its cage, threatening to break out. 

She whimpered every time he pinched her waist a little too tight. 

He had to force himself to slow down when he looked into those big, round eyes filled with tears. 

But these two women. 

They dared put their hands on her. 

Kick her. 

Slap her. 

Claw at her. 

Her, Kira Hewitt, Mrs McCarthy, his woman! 

When he got mad, he got even. 

Austyn impaled the two women with his eyes. “Who hit her?” 

His voice was low, toneless. 

Helen’s heart thumped against her chest. 

Georgina ducked her head, afraid of looking at the man 

He was movie–star handsome, but his eyes were savage. 

She hid her face behind her mother’s arm. 

Her palms were sweaty. 

‘Cat got your tongue? Austyn gave them another five seconds. “Fine. We’ll do this my way then.” 

Georgina clutched Helen’s arm, 

Her nails dug into her mother’s skin, but neither woman noticed.

What was he going to do? 

He spoke with the flat tone of an executioner. 

The man was sitting on a visitor’s chair, but the air he gave off was that of an owner. 

He crossed his long legs at the ankles and steepled his fingers.

Helen’s eyes widened. 

Was he serious? 

Georgina shrieked, hiding behind her mother. ‘Mom! Call the police!” 

Austyn sniggered. “Go ahead. You trespassed on a private hospital room. You verbally abused and bodily assaulted a family member of the patient. Do you know how many laws in the Penal Code you’ve broken?” 

Helen’s mouth went dry. 

The man wasn’t afraid of the police, that much was clear. 

“S…sir, it was just a domestic dispute. I’m actually her

stepped forward with one of the two bodyguards. 

They towered above the two women, who cowered in fear. 

When he wasn’t chattering, Kai could be intimidating. 

The ex–military put his game face on and advanced toward the women. 

Georgina shrank back, shielding herself with her mother’s body. “Mom, do something!” 

“S…stay back!” Stuttering, Helen raised both arms and tried to draw herself up to her full height. 

Kai removed his suit jacket and tilted his chin at Stefan. 

The stony–faced bodyguard nodded. 

He prised Georgina’s fingers off Helen’s arm and forcefully separated the two. 

He kept a tight hold on the younger woman’s arm. 

Georgina’s lips trembled. 

Her face was drained of all colour. 

Stefan pinned both her arms behind her back. 

Kai raised his hand. 

“Mom!‘ Georgina screamed, eyes screwed shut. 

‘Wait.” 

Kal paused before turning to look at his boss. 

Austyn wore a cruel smile. 

He looked at Georgina. ‘My assistant was trained by the army. His record was breaking fourteen bricks in half using his bare hands, As thick–skinned as your face is, I don’t think it can take that much impact. I

Austyn shifted his gaze to her, the smile on his face fading.

Helen gaped at the man in stunned silence. 

“No!” Georgina thrashed in Stefan’s armlock. 

Kira stared at the man. 

He was sitting on the chair, unperturbed. 

Like this was just another day at the office.

She didn’t dare glare at Austyn, so she shot a baleful glance in Kai’s direction. 

The assistant stepped back and gestured. ‘All yours.” 

Helen clenched her fists. 

Her entire body was trembling. 

She’d dealt with hostile men before, but never ones who threatened physical violence with such casual 

ease. 

There was no doubt in her mind that if she didn’t do as the man said, neither she nor her daughter could walk out of here in one piece. 

They were two defenceless women. 

How could they go up against these ferocious men?
