Hope Springs Eternal
Kelly’s POV
I woke up very exhausted and I found my aby lying next to me. Sitting on the chair beside my bed was Luke. He’s sleeping and his hand is on my baby’s toe. The genuine care in his actions touched my heart. I know he truly cares and that he’s a good man. I’ve proven that a few months ago. He never left my side. He stayed with me all the time. He kept my secret and took care of me.
I’ve learned to forgive him because of the sincerity he showed. I still don’t completely get why he has to bring me here when he can clearly protect me. Even Pierce can protect me. I trust them both. However, if this is fate’s plan, then I’ll accept it. As long as my loved ones are safe.
“Hmm…” Luke opened his eyes and our gazes met. He stared at me for a few seconds before he sat properly and massaged his neck.
He looked at the window. “It’s dinner time.”
I smiled. “Thank you for staying.”
He pulled himself up and glanced at my baby. “From this day, I swore my loyalty only to you.”
“You won’t betray me again?”
“Betraying you wasn’t my intention. Your broken trust was a collateral damage of my will to save you.”
“I know you saved Pierce too,” I said in a very low tone.
He stared into my eyes without emotions on his face. “You’ll be devastated if he gets hurt, Kelly.”
“You’ve learned to call my name…”
“Just as much as I’ve learned to like you…”
That…made me still. I couldn’t say anything until he turned his back and walked away. Did he just…confess?
I swallowed hard as I looked at my baby. I couldn’t forget what Luke said, that I couldn’t look him in the
eyes when he came back carrying a tray of food in his
hands. He put the tray on the bedside table and went to the window. He pulled the curtain down after he stared at the droplets of rainwater cascading down the window pane.
“There’s a typhoon coming. I should head out for a while to buy stocks.”
I looked outside the window. “Will you be okay? It’s dangerous if there’s a typhoon coming.”
He faced me. “I’ll be fine. I’ll be back in an hour.”
I just nodded at him. “Okay. Come back safe.”
He nodded and left. I slowly got off the bed, carefully not making anything that could wake my baby up. I smiled as I looked at his handsome face. I wonder what Pjerce would feel once he saw our baby. He confessed his feelings for me before we got separated. I just hope that he still loves me when the right time comes. I just need a little more time to fix this before I show up again.
I started eating in silence when the rain became heavy. It comes with thunder
and lightning that I started worrying about Luke.
After eating, I checked my baby before I went downstairs to bring the tray to the kitchen. My father’s armed men have their own house near the gate so I’m alone here aside from the two guys guarding the door from the outside.
After washing the plates and utensils, I turned on the television to watch news about the weather. It will rain overnight.
I was about to turn the television off when the second news got my attention.
My lips parted as I felt my heart ripping apart when I saw a photo of Pierce and …Lexi together. The news anchor happily reported about the nearing
engagement of the two people in the picture and I found myself gripping the remote control.
“P–Pierce…”
“PIERRE!” I screamed again as I heard my baby crying when the man landed on the ground on his two feet.
