Rachel pondered for a moment. She raised a hand to tuck loose strands of hair behind her ear and said calmly, “Look at him. Don’t you like him?” 

“I don’t,” said David. 

Rachel pursed her lips and stared at him deeply. 

David continued, “If he’s our child, I might like him a little.” 

He pulled Rachel in closer and wrapped his arms tightly around her slender waist. 

His breath tickled her cochlea through her ears, like a spring breeze blowing against a willow tree, setting off layers of ripples in her heart. 

David looked at the faint blush on her cheeks and the smile in his involuntarily deepened.

After entering the elevator, he hugged her from behind. “When can you rely on me a little more?” 

Rachel’s body stiffened suddenly. 

She originally thought that this topic would be over, but she did not expect David to bring it up again.

David looked at the closed door and frowned imperceptibly. Then, he turned and left. 

At this moment, his phone rang. David glanced at the caller ID and picked up. 

“David, in a while, the Four Families of Seaxas will be hosting a Chamber of Commerce. Do you want to go check it out with me?” Jimmy Shain’s background was a little noisy. It was obvious that he was having fun late at night. 

The Four Families of Seaxas included the Johnson family, which was the richest amongst them all, followed by the Shain family, the Page family, and the Green family. 

All these years, the Four Families had maintained a four–legged situation. 

If David went to the Chamber of Commerce, he would definitely see Old Mr. Johnson. 

“Not interested,” said David. 

On the other end of the phone, Jimmy noticed his listless tone. “What happened? Did you quarrel with Rachel again?” 

Hearing this, David frowned. “Why do you think a woman would rather rely on herself than on her man?” 

“That she doesn’t trust him,” Jimmy blurted out. “Women, especially women who have been hurt by love before, are the most sensitive. They wouldn’t let a man in her heart so easily…”
