Betrayal At The Altar (Rachel and David) novel Chapter 437

Chapter 437
Upon hearing this, a cold glint flashed across David’s eyes. The corners of his mouth curled into a faint smile that carried a hint of sinister. “Who said that we can’t marry outsiders?”
Rachel looked at him in surprise.

David explained, “Today, Aureliana has the Four Families. Its purpose is to disperse the power held by the Elders. Previously, however, there was an existence that surpassed even the Elders.”
“An existence above the Elders?”

“Yes, the Aries family.” David held Rachel’s hand in his and said faintly, “The Aries family is the oldest family in Aureliana. They controlled Aureliana’s economy. The Elders were nothing compared to the Aries family. In the past, the head of the Aries family once went against all odds to marry an outsider, despite major objections from the masses. From then on, that rule was broken.”
Went against all odds?
Only the strongest of emotions could overcome massive objections from everyone.
Rachel noted that David mentioned it had happened previously. “And? They don’t exist anymore?”
Moreover, he said that the Aries family once controlled the economy of
Aureliana.

Such power would definitely bring about uninvited troubles from those envious of their authority.
“25 years ago, a revolt broke out in Aureliana. The Aries family disappeared without a trace overnight. No one knew what exactly happened. In the following month, as the chaos subsided, the Four Families appeared. They kept the Elders’ powers in balance. The Jones family was supported by the Elders and became the number one position.”
“All gone overnight?”

“No one knew if they were dead or alive.”
Rachel nodded thoughtfully. She was not too surprised by the outcome.

The Aries family was the oldest family to have existed. It did not matter if it was their status or the wealth they had. When someone possessed that much power and authority, people would grow to be wary and cautious of them.
However, this had nothing to do with her.
Sleep overtook her. Rachel yawned, closed her eyes, and fell into a deep sleep
again.

It was the next day and the sun was shining brightly.
Sunlight poured into the room through a gap in the curtains and landed on the expensive wool carpet. The beam of light extended till it reached the bed.

The room was dimly lit. Rachel was still in a daze when she felt a warm breath breathing down on her face.
She opened her eyes drowsily. All she could see was David’s mesmerizing face.
She blinked, her consciousness slowly returning. “Morning.”
“Do you want to go to the hospital?” David asked.
Rachel nodded. “Yes.”

“Let’s eat something first.”
Rachel nodded and got out of bed.
An hour later, Rachel and David left the house hand in hand.
In the car, Rachel noticed the dark circles under David’s eyes.
Did he not sleep last night?
