Betrayal At The Altar
Chapter 569
After entering the private room, Olivia walked up to Mrs. Smith with a smile. “Mrs. Smith, I chose a necklace for you on the way here, so I was delayed. I’m really sorry.”
As she spoke, she opened the jewelry box.
Inside the box was an ice-type jade embedded with rubies and diamonds.
Every piece of jade was crystal clear. Under the light, it seemed to have the luster of a cat’s eye, complementing the gorgeous rubies.
There was no lack of nobility in its elegance.
Mrs. Smith had taken a liking to this necklace when she was shopping previously. However, the Smith family’s business was not doing well during this period of time, so she could only bear to part with it.
She did not expect Olivia to buy it for her.
This was a pleasant surprise!
Mrs. Smith’s eyes flashed with joy, but in front of people of the Cruise family, she could not appear too superficial. She could only suppress the excitement in her heart and said. “Thank you.”
“My pleasure.” Olivia smiled obediently. “I’ve caused a lot of trouble these past few days, causing you to be implicated as well. I really feel very guilty…
Hearing this, Mrs. Smith sighed helplessly. “You used to be a public figure. Now that you’ve left the industry, who knows how many people are watching you in the dark? If you do anything wrong, your mistakes will be magnified countless times and become the topic of discussion for the public. So in the future, treat this matter as a lesson and be more careful.
“In the future, you have to think twice before you speak or do anything. Otherwise, you’ll get into trouble again.”
Olivia pretended to be obedient just to gain Mrs. Smith’s favor. But she did not expect Mrs. Smith to put on airs and lecture her seriously.
She answered obediently.
However, she lowered her head to hide the coldness and disdain in her eyes.
Bertha sat in her seat and felt her face burning. She looked a little displeased.
After all, Olivia was the daughter she had given birth to after carrying her for ten months. She felt she was disrespected when her daughter was lectured by others in front of her!
Wasn’t this an obvious insult to her?
Sensing that the atmosphere was a little awkward, Richard smiled and said, “It’s said that daughters are considerate. I raised her for nothing. In the end, she only knows to be considerate to others.”
“Dad, what are you talking about?” Olivia looked shy. She stomped her feet and quickly walked to Richard’s side.
Seeing her shy look, everyone immediately beamed with joy, and the atmosphere eased.
Mrs. Smith looked at the necklace beside her and glanced at it from time to time.
The more she looked at it, the more she couldn’t wait to try it on.
She rolled her eyeballs and stood up apologetically. I’m going to the restroom. Please be my guest.”
“Mrs. Smith, I’ll go with you.” Olivia knew what Mrs. Smith was thinking the most.
When she stood up to leave, she deliberately took the necklace with her.
When she walked into the restroom, she walked to Mrs. Smith’s side and said, “Mrs. Smith, let me put the necklace on for you first.”
Mrs. Smith was secretly delighted, but she pretended to be polite. Tm afraid that’s not appropriate…”
“It’s a gift for you. Don’t worry. Nothing is inappropriate.” Olivia did not give Mrs. Smith a chance to refuse and helped her put on the necklace directly.
Mrs. Smith looked at herself in the mirror and gently stroked her face. Her eyes were filled with happiness.
“When I saw this necklace, I immediately thought of you.” Olivia praised Mrs. Smith generously. “Now it seems that this necklace really suits you.”
In the past, when she was in the Smith family, Mrs. Smith would either order her or glare at her.
“What can I do for you, Mrs. Smith?” Rachel raised her eyebrows and looked at Mrs. Smith with a faintly mocking smile.
Seeing her attitude, Mrs. Smith immediately regretted taking initiative to speak to Rachel. She didn’t know why she greeted Rachel just now for no reason!
She took a deep breath. “I don’t need your help. I just think you’re radiant, so you must have been having a good time recently!”
Rachel’s lips curled into a bright smile, but it looked more like a cold smile. “Back then, the Smith family compensated me 10% of the company’s market value. So, I’m naturally having a good time. But I wonder how Miss Smith is now!”
Hearing this, Mrs. Smith’s expression suddenly changed. She glared at Rachel.
These two events, especially the last one, were an absolute disgrace to Mrs. Smith.
Ever since the cruise ship auction ended, Jane’s reputation had been in tatters. Not to mention finding a good man with a good family background to marry, even someone whose family background was not as good as the Smith family would not want to marry her.
A few days ago, she was found to be pregnant.
Getting pregnant after experiencing that kind of thing was simply a great humiliation.
Mrs. Smith had no choice but to secretly help Jane abort the baby.
Jane had suffered, but Mrs. Smith also felt the pain. Mrs. Smith had nowhere to complain about this. She could only swallow her anger.
Now, Rachel’s words were like a knife stabbing into her heart.
Mrs. Smith was so angry that her entire body was trembling. She stared at Rachel viciously as if she was a venomous snake lying dormant in the grass.
“You, this is all your fault! If it weren’t for you, my daughter wouldn’t have become like this! A vicious person like you will sooner or later…”
“Mrs. Smith!” Rachel interrupted her coldly.
