Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord novel Chapter 109

Chapter 109: Haven (2)

"I don’t think he is a man you should try to get close to. He is dangerous but we don’t have to worry about that. From everything you have written, it is evident that he dislikes you. You did take the spot of his current wife," said Bryce.

"He should thank me since she ended up in his arms but all he does is look at me with hate. I do not understand how she was able to seduce him. There is more to what she wants this town to believe. I suspect they were having an affair," Cassandra said since nothing else made sense.

"She is one of his kind. Perhaps that is what you lacked. It shouldn’t be any of your concern but like I told you, the others are upset you allowed a pureblood to slip from your fingers."

Cassandra wasn’t concerned about Selene. "She is quite weak. I have managed to chase her out of her place."

"Or maybe she had the self-respect to leave him. I am always on your side," Bryce smiled, trying to stay on Cassandra’s good side. "Don’t worry about that woman. Focus on helping Gabriel raise his status. Do not act as if you do not enjoy your new life."

"There is only so much I can buy to distract me from the man I have by my side. I am hoping once he has gotten over his mother’s death, I will be able to relax. Now I can spend the money he gives me as I like. It is time I get to wear the dresses I like," Cassandra said, imagining herself in a beautiful dress.

"You must still be careful with what you wear since you were raised in a church-"

"The very church that asked me to give myself to a man I hardly knew? I will dress as I see fit. It is one of the few things to make me happy. I’m sure some of them have already branded me a whore," Cassandra said, knowing what was said behind her back.

"They do not think of you as a whore. They know this is all part of the plan and once it is over with, you will be praised for your hard work. You have been here too long. Even though I am a priest, it would not be a good look for you to be alone with me. Go back to that man," Bryce advised Cassandra.

Cassandra wasn’t ready to go. Gabriel was so thrilled that their wedding would come soon that he would want to touch her. "I feel safe here. Allow me to stay a little longer."

Bryce sighed. Why must she make this complicated for him?

"You know that I can’t allow that. If anyone were to see us together, they would question how we know each other. We can give an innocent response but I would rather you not be seen near me. Isn’t that what you wanted?" Bryce asked, remembering how upset she was when he was near her. "Go home."

Cassandra wished there was someone to understand why she didn’t want to leave yet. Why couldn’t they have created the story that she had family here?

"I am constantly surrounded by vampires and must see them as my family. I lay with a man I am not in love with. I hope the plans are not more important than how I feel. I will leave," Cassandra decided as she sat up. "I shouldn’t stay where those creatures might be tempted to burn down."

Cassandra regretted coming to the church. Instead of making her feel safe, Cassandra was left thinking about the plan. "I will find somewhere else to feel like I am safe."

"Wait," Bryce grabbed her hand. "You must know that we all care for you but our plans are important as well. When this is all over, you will settle down somewhere quiet like you have always wanted. I will make sure of it. He will make sure of it."

"Your words mean nothing to me now. I must go before we are caught alone. Just as I cannot come to you, you cannot come to me. I hope they will wake up and send the right priest I am to speak with. Not you and all your mistakes," Cassandra said, still annoyed it was Bryce here.
