"She’s not here to fight with you," said Xavier.
Selene became concerned when Xavier only mentioned that she didn’t want to fight. It left the thought that he might want to fight.
"I am not going to discuss my wife with you or any other man," Gabriel said, needing Xavier out of the way. "I mean no trouble with you but you are getting involved in my marriage."
"Our marriage is over. I want a divorce and I shall soon send the request for it. I informed you about this before I left last night," Selene said, knowing Gabriel didn’t take it seriously.
Gabriel wasn’t ready to let go of Selene. The plan was to let her wander the night and return to her place in the morning. "I am not ready for a divorce. We need to send Lord Blackthorn off and speak alone."
Selene looked ahead at Cassandra coming toward them. It was never going to be just the two of them anymore. "I am serious about the divorce and there is nothing to be said that can change my mind. You knew what Elsie meant to me yet you killed her without speaking to me first."
"She harmed my woman," Gabriel replied.
Selene smiled but there was a tightness to it from her forcing it. "You already have your woman so what do you need me for? You wish to marry her so I am giving you the freedom to do so without asking the king to have a second wife. I have come for what belongs to me."
"I am not divorcing you," Gabriel said, refusing to let her have her way.
"Well, there goes the plan to be civil. There are other ways to end a marriage when the husband doesn’t want to agree to it. The other option would be to make her a widow for a moment,’ Xavier suggested, preferring this option.
"Lord Blackthorn," Gabriel said, trying not to raise his voice. "What have you come for? She has returned so you may go."
"Unfortunately, I can’t. I must see that no harm comes to her and seeing that you are having trouble with your temper, I know what shall come if I leave. There’s a hierarchy in this world," Xavier reminded Gabriel. "You may feel on top of the world because of the current praises but you will always be far below a pureblood. Isn’t that why you married her?"
Gabriel wondered how much Selene told Xavier about their arrangement. "I am not divorcing her."
"So," Xavier said, looking down at the nails he was able to grow quickly. "A widow, it is."
"Gabriel!" Cassandra clung to his arm. She placed herself in front of him so he wouldn’t be harmed by Xavier.
Xavier didn’t find the sight endearing. Instead, he liked that it was a two-for-one.
Selene touched Xavier’s hand to calm him. Now was not the time for a fight and she didn’t want Xavier to steal the pleasure of killing Gabriel. "I have only come for my belongings, not to spill any blood."
"But, I find it so tempting," Xavier said, his smile ticking off the man in front of him.
"Gabriel, we should let the lady grab her things. Some time away should clear her head and let her see that this is her home," Cassandra said, trying to be the voice of reason. "I’m sure you will not harm her. You only wish to speak." freewēbnoveℓ.com
"Lord Blackthorn," Cassandra turned to face Xavier. "I shall stay here with you while they speak."
