"Your blood, Lady Blackthorn."
"Thank you, Harold. What would we ever do without you?" Selene said, taking the glass from the tray Harold held.
Harold did not respond but Selene did not mind it. He wasn’t a man of many words which Selene had gotten used to. She would be the talkative one to let Harold know how much she was grateful for him.
Selene tried not to laugh as she thought of when Harold approached her to apologise for moving around the boxes under the bed. It was the first time she saw him be so terrified as if he expected to be yelled at.
How could she ever be angry with Harold when he looked cute trying not to meet her eyes as he apologised?
Agnes was curious about what made Selene smile so much. "You are quite happy to see a glass of blood. It does smell wonderful."
"Oh," Selene set the glass down. "It is not the blood that makes me smile. I was thinking of Harold trying to apologise for moving the boxes. How could anyone think he is scary? It wasn’t anyone’s fault but mine. I didn’t tell you the right room."
"Still, I should have found a better place than under the bed. Perhaps it was fated in the stars for Lord Blackthorn to stumble upon it. We can now be better at hiding with the new shelves placed in your private room. It is a wonderful gift," Agnes said.
Agnes was surprised when she woke to news of Selene’s private room being rearranged by the lord’s order. It was a splendid gift since Selene had a room all to herself to do as she liked and no one could question what was placed here.
Seeing this, Agnes rooted for Xavier even more. He was treating Selene better than Gabriel did even before the arrival of Cassandra. Gabriel’s home had always been his with Selene looking after it but the estate was now referred to as Selene’s home along with Xavier.
"Now I must know the reason behind your smile. Maybe it is a day we will all smile. We must get back to what we were speaking about. You have overheard his position in the palace concerns the army?" Selene asked.
"Yes. It was announced at the ball last night when the king awarded the soldiers who attended. It is unclear what position Gabriel will hold as of now. In my opinion, I find it unlikely he will hold a big title in the army. The positions of generals, commanders and others are already filled by purebloods," Agnes said, puzzled as to what was left for Gabriel.
"Well, we do not know who the king wants to remove from the palace and will have Gabriel fill that place. We will have to wait to see. Most high-ranking positions in the palace are taken by purebloods. Will the king make a change by adding mixed blood now?" Selene wondered.
If the king truly only cared for purebloods then Selene didn’t see that happening.
"I wonder if he made it sound grand only for it to be that Gabriel will remain as he is now but be allowed to enter the palace. I must wait to see what title he will hold now. That will play an important role in what I can do," said Selene.
"Why don’t you ask your husband to find out for you? Surely, he could have it by the end of the day," Agnes said, not understanding why Selene had her ask the maids who visited the market this morning.
"I know he could find the answer fast but I do not want him to have to visit the palace and I worry about mentioning Gabriel to him too much. I know I will have his support but is it foolish to want our talks to be about other things?" Selene asked, looking to Agnes for an honest answer. "If you say I should ask him then I would."
