"So, you suspect your wife heals others harmed by holy weapons and she might be immune to it which makes her a very hard-to-kill pureblood. The problem you have is how you have to test it, which is to cut her. You can’t do that," Lucas said, checking that he had everything right.
If what Xavier said was true then Selene had a whole lot more problems coming her way. A vampire who couldn’t die from holy weapons and might be able to heal others would be valuable.
The very people who turned their backs on Selene now or judged her would want to get close to her so they had a way of healing.
It was worth testing if such a pureblood existed but Lucas understood why Xavier didn’t want to take the chance to cut Selene. If he was wrong, then Selene would have a cut on her hand which would never heal forever.
’"Perhaps I should," Lucas started to make the offer of him being the one to do it but once Xavier glared at him, he decided against it. "Perhaps I should help you think of more options."
"Of all the women you could marry, you found a special one," Lucas said.
It was something worth laughing about. So many of the Blackthorns and other purebloods were concerned about Selene ruining the Blackthorn bloodline yet wouldn’t it be best if Xavier had children with a woman who would make it so those children could never be harmed by holy weapons?
Lucas couldn’t think of another pureblood who would be better than Selene to be the mother of Xavier’s children.
"I found one I need to protect more than I first realised. This can never get out," Xavier said. He trusted Lucas to not let this get out and the stones in the room would prohibit servants from eavesdropping on their conversation.
Lucas nodded his head, agreeing with Xavier. "The last time purebloods thought there was a way to be protected from holy weapons, a white witch was killed. That created a rift between purebloods and witches."
Lucas remembered the story of how purebloods who believed the claim feasted on the blood of a white witch only for it to not work and for an innocent woman to end up dead.
It wouldn’t surprise him if purebloods would feast on their own.
"They are still chasing that rumour. It is why the town guards search for where any witches are hiding. They are desperate," said Xavier.
"The best solution was to search for where the humans claim they collected the holy water. Many years have gone by and we have not found it," Lucas said, curious about the location.
"That is because the king doesn’t care to search for it. His end goal is to round up all the humans like cattle and have vampires feast as they like."
Xavier continued to say, "There was a time when everyone was curious about what skill the Harrisons inherited. I am curious what led them to believe what the Harrisons had was special.
"There are many secrets in this town. Perhaps the lady is right that her parents were innocent and there had been a plot to figure out what was so special about the Harrisons. Before that, I had never heard anything strange about her family," said Lucas.
Xavier agreed with Lucas. "They were simple people who only cared about their daughter. There is a chance they were good at fooling us and it is true what they did or there is more to the story. I want you to look into it. Use anyone loyal to me in the court to get it done."
