Orlork had more important matters to deal with than Nathaniel. Had he known they were at the start of another war, he would have gone to see the others and started planning for them to be safe.

"It is not as it sounds. We are being careful. Should they come to our doors, we will be ready for them," Nathaniel said, trying to find his way back into his father’s good graces. "I have already started plans for how we will deal with this. Those humans will never get the best of us."

"You are starting to sound more like the king. They have made more holy weapons which is enough cause for concern. The king has been ignoring the attacks since they have only been toward mixed-bloods. I am certain their attacks will come to us soon," said Xavier.

Orlork nodded his head, agreeing with Xavier. "Your son is more sensible than you are. Jasper, see Nathaniel out. I want him out of my home and off my land. If he doesn’t leave, I will inform the others he is no longer a Blackthorn."

Nathaniel frowned. "Father, you have not heard the full story yet. The others will tell you."

Orlork stood up from his chair. "I have heard enough. The elders will follow who they think has more control of the family. They will listen to me now. You are not to show your face to me or anyone else in this family until I have called upon you. Take this time to be with your wife and to come up with a good apology. Leave."

Nathaniel’s right hand shook with anger. He knew it was pointless to try to plead his case to his father now. He needed to give Orlork some time then he would return to his rightful place at his father’s side.

Camilla enjoyed the last bit of the show as she watched Nathaniel walk away. She knew it would be her turn to leave next since it made the most sense for her father to turn to Ragnar. "Well, it is my turn to go. It was nice seeing you, father."

Orlork didn’t see any reason for Camilla to leave yet. "Stay. There is much for us to speak about."

Camilla knew not to get her hopes up. "Why? If this is about me getting married then I don’t want to hear it. You’ve done enough to make it hard to be with anyone. I might have the Blackthorn name but when I open my mouth, others see just how much my father hates me. You can take the name away from me."

"That is not what I want to talk about and you will not lose our name. I will not do that to you," Orlork promised.

Camilla stood up, ready to leave. "That would have sounded sweet to me years ago but now, it means nothing to me. If you are going to apologise for breaking my fangs, save it. You acted upon how you felt then."

"Camilla-"

"No, it isn’t time for us to speak because I would hate to think that now Nathaniel has failed you, you want to apologise to me. I had my fun here tonight so let’s leave it at that. Ragnar is here for you to speak with. Start putting your faith in him this time instead of relying on a fool. Goodnight," Camilla said her goodbyes.

Ragnar considered convincing Camilla to stay but he knew it wouldn’t be any use. Everything wasn’t going to be fixed in one night just because Orlork was awake. If their father wanted to apologise to Camilla then he had to make more effort.

Orlork let Camilla leave. She was always stubborn but in this case, she had a right to be.

"Must I still be here? I would rather watch my wife sleep than listen to this," Xavier said, bored.
