Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord novel Chapter 238

Chapter 238: Family talk (4)

"It must be nice that he’s suddenly turned kind just in time to meet your wife. Years ago, he would have pulled out her fangs and sent her far away so you two couldn’t be together," said Camilla.

"Or maybe he is doing it because he loves me more than his children, who are always arguing. Don’t spoil the mood with the past. Take that up with him another time," Xavier said and then returned to listening to where Selene walked with Orlork.

Camilla sat down at the dinner table. "Well, look at you being a good husband to your wife. He’s right, you know. If he wanted to harm her, he would have done it the moment he saw her, or he would have waited for when she was out alone to steal her. He likes her."

"I can hear your jealousy in your voice," said Xavier.

"I can’t help it. He wasn’t fond of who I brought around, but he’s accepting your wife so easily. It must be true that sleep changes you. It gives you a lot of time to think. Should I go to sleep?" Camilla asked herself.

There was nothing for her here in this town or elsewhere.

"I would wake up when the town is more interesting. Would you let me sleep here?" Camilla asked Xavier. "You are the only one I can trust to not open my coffin and stab me. Then again, if she is here, I might not be too safe," she glanced at Josephine.

"Oh, please. If you are asleep and out of my sight, I wouldn’t open the coffin. I welcome you to go to sleep. I will buy the coffin myself if needed," Josephine offered.

"I will put two of you in a coffin and have you sleep in the dungeon if you do not stop. So, will you shut up, or should I start preparing coffins?" Xavier asked the pair.

"You should watch what you say to your mother. I am not going into any dungeon and I certainly wouldn’t go with Camilla. This reminds me that I must visit the princes. I have questions as to why she did something so silly," said Josephine.

Camilla laughed, amused by what she heard. "You have the princess in your dungeon? I swear, only you could pull this off. What did she do?"

"She shifted into Selene tried to seduce me," Xavier answered.

"That is something I would expect her to do. So, her brother likes your wife and his sister wants you. You never fail to find yourself in good drama. Perhaps I should visit the princess. I need a good laugh," Camilla said, needing a distraction.

"The only visitors Morgana will have are the ones who will join her in the dungeon forever. Don’t speak to her. Both of you," Xavier added, looking at his mother.

It was pointless speaking to Morgana, and quite frankly, Xavier didn’t need his mother telling him how pitiful Morgana looked. Being in the dungeon, Morgana would never be comfortable.

"Since we can’t talk about the princess, I want to speak about what you said earlier. Have you honestly never thought of having children with Selene? You look at her like she’s the only one in the room, and it’s starting to bother me," Camilla said, feeling forced to remember she didn’t have anyone at her side.

"It isn’t something I have to speak of with you. Or you," Xavier added before his mother could interject. "Drop this and don’t bring it up to Selene. Each time she turns, someone mentions a child. I don’t need her to feel pressured."

"I won’t pressure her. I was only curious. Until he mentioned it, I didn’t think of her being tied to the Everharts. I only think of the Harrisons when her parents are mentioned. Did you marry her for her family secrets?" Camilla asked.
