"Lord Blackthorn, there is a visitor at the gates requesting to speak with Lady Blackthorn, but I think you should go to the gates," said Harold.
Harold didn’t want to interfere, but he knew it wasn’t a good idea for Selene to speak to her former husband. No good would come of it, and after Selene’s good dinner with the Blackthorns, Harold didn’t want to ruin today for her.
Xavier was uninterested in speaking to a visitor. "Who is it? Is it Eugene again?"
"No, it is Gabriel Valor," Harold replied.
Xavier smiled.
What had he done to get such a good morning?
"Harold, if I go out there, I’m going to kill him. He was placed as the captain of the guards. Now his head has grown so big he thinks he can come to see my wife. Send him off," Xavier ordered Harold.
While Xavier wanted nothing more than to kill Gabriel, his death would reach Selene’s ears, which Xavier didn’t want her to be bothered with.
"The guards said that he seemed to be injured. I don’t think he came here as a guard but rather seeking out the lady for help," Harold said, hoping Xavier would reconsider.
Xavier sighed. He knew there would come a time when Gabriel would return to bother Selene.
It was only a matter of time before Gabriel would regret everything he had done up to now. Gabriel was the kind of fool to believe Selene would go crawling back to him.
"Don’t let it reach Selene that he is at the gates. I will go," Xavier said, deciding to entertain Gabriel.
"Should I get your sword?"
"No. If I kill him, it’s going to be with my bare hands," Xavier answered as he walked toward the front door.
Xavier prepared himself for a headache. No conversation he had with Gabriel had ever been sensible.
Xavier walked out the front door to the gates, where Gabriel wasn’t pleased to see him, and Xavier shared the same feelings.
Gabriel looked up at the front doors to see if Selene was there to watch, but it was too far for him to tell if she was there. "I didn’t come for you," he said.
"It worries me that you think you could just come here and speak to her as you like. Selene doesn’t want to see you, and quite frankly, I don’t think you two need to speak. I was present to hear how you felt about her and witness how badly you treated her," Xavier said, reminding Gabriel of his actions.
"This is between me and my wife," Gabriel said, annoyed he had to speak with Xavier. "Know your place and stay out of this."
Xavier chuckled. He had the thought of keeping Gabriel alive so he could be entertained by Gabriel’s stupidity.
"Your wife? I thought she was now married to me and you had the little deceiver," said Xavier.
Gabriel gripped the reins of his horse. How much did Xavier know about Cassandra?
