Michael shook his head at Darius’s foolish ways. There would be a war by morning with Darius’s plans. It was a good time to get out of the palace since it might be stormed by angry humans.
"I woke up for this," Michael said, annoyed.
If the others had listened to his plans to simply kill Darius, this all could have been avoided.
Michael walked in the opposite direction from where Darius was heading and was startled by a loud noise.
"What now?" Michael muttered.
Michael started to rethink becoming king now that he saw how hectic the palace could be. He was only here for a few days, yet this was the busiest his life had ever been.
Michael stood at a good distance, watching as guards ran by him in a panic, speaking about the queen. He didn’t have his run-in with Vivienne and saw it now as a perfect chance.
Maybe Vivienne could talk some sense into her husband, or, alongside Darius needing to leave the palace, Vivienne needed to join him.
’They are both crazy,’ Michael thought as he watched Vivienne force her way out of a room.
Vivienne was far stronger than she looked, which helped her to grab some of the guards and toss them out of her way.
"Stop!" Michael ordered the guards. He approached where Vivienne stood with her hand around a guard’s neck. "The king has tasked me with taking care of the queen. This isn’t strong enough to hold her. You have better strength than most, don’t you?"
"Michael," said Vivienne. "What are you doing here? Why would you, of all people, be working with my husband?
"You are still so kind as to refer to him as your husband. Even after he imprisoned you, or maybe I have judged this wrong," Michael said, forced to stop by a guard pointing a weapon at him. "That looks sharp. Be careful where you put it," he said, touching the tip of the sword.
Michael peered down at the guard. "What’s a little sword going to do to a pureblood? Hmm."
Michael looked ahead at the guard to Vivienne, who was close to killing the guard in her hold. "I just want to talk. I can take you to a more pleasant room. Oh," he chuckled. "That’s the kind of talent you have," he said after Vivienne vanished into thin air.
Michael wasn’t as worried as the guards who panicked. Vivienne could vanish as much as she liked, but that didn’t change that she was still too loud.
"I have heard of some of you vanishing, but I had never seen it myself. How do you get it to make your dress vanish with you? That is the true mystery here," Michael said, following the noise Vivienne was making. "Teach me how to do that, and I just might help you with your husband."
He placed his hands behind his back as he walked. "All this time, you could vanish, yet you decided to stay around him. I’m not saying you are as foolish as he is, but you aren’t as sensible as I once thought of you."
