"Grandfather, is this where you have been living all along? I thought you liked to sleep outside, so I wasn’t able to visit. Not that you live in a cave," Selene said, surprised by where they walked to get to Zephyr’s home.
"I am not disturbed by anyone while I am here. The only visits I get are from animals. I have lived here from the moment your mother decided to stay in town with your father. It is better than it looks at first glance," said Zephyr.
"I didn’t mean to make it sound awful. I am only surprised that it is here you reside. I would not have found you since I would have looked for a house. Thank you," Selene said after Zephyr held her before she slipped.
"I travelled too much to have a home around the town. This is where I will return to when I visit you," said Zephyr.
"Why?" Selene asked, seeing no need for him to stay here. "There are plenty of rooms in the estate. You don’t have to hide while you are in town. Come stay with us."
"I will think about it. I don’t like to intrude," Zephyr replied.
Zephyr kept his distance to not disturb the couple with his presence. He had done it with Thomas and Seraphina so Thomas wouldn’t be so nervous when Zephyr was to stay overnight.
"You wouldn’t be intruding. The estate is quite large, so we can place you where you will have rooms all to yourself. You must stop being alone, grandfather," Selene said, clinging to Zephyr’s hand as she walked. "You have that in common with Xavier."
Selene’s excitement grew when they reached the mouth of the cave. A little bit more and she would see her parents.
Selene picked at the braid Agnes had done for her. Never before had Selene been so concerned about her appearance. Looking perfect wasn’t on her. She needed something to fidget with.
The further they walked into the cave, the more light there was, and the first thing Selene saw clearly was a couple standing together before a table.
Selene stood still at first, getting used to the sight of her parents alive and well. The last time she had seen them, she was the one who prepared their coffins and laid them to rest. Now they stood before her, breathing like everyone else.
"Selene," Seraphina covered her mouth, trying to hold back her tears. "Thomas," she looked at her husband. "I cannot wait," she said, walking over to where Selene stood.
Only when Seraphina embraced Selene did Selene move as she fully adapted to her parents being alive. She could finally hold her mother and feel her warm breath against her skin.
Selene felt her mother tremble, followed by her sniffling as she cried.
"You are alive," Selene said, returning her mother’s embrace.
Selene rested her head on her mother’s shoulder. To feel her mother respond was all that Selene longed for since her parents’ deaths.
Thomas hugged his wife and daughter, not wanting to let either of them go. frёewebnoѵēl.com
