"Was that meant to be a threat, or were you telling me a joke?" Xavier asked, uncertain of what Thomas was doing.
"It was a threat. I said that I would kill you if anything ever happened to my daughter. How could it not be a threat?" Thomas asked.
"The tone you said it in wasn’t convincing," Xavier explained, ignoring Thomas to keep an eye on Selene. "You don’t need to threaten me. Should I put it in writing to pass out among all of you that I will not harm her?"
Zephyr kept himself busy with a glass of blood, which helped him feel better after being out in the sun.
"I had to say it at least once," said Thomas. "I’m glad that we understand each other."
Xavier stayed silent to let Thomas think that he had threatened him. He found Thomas to be funny more than scary. Thomas fit how Selene described her father to be when no one was watching.
"You are two fools," Zephyr said, setting the empty glass down. "That is why they are both watching us and laughing. I have already told him to treat her well, and he promised, so let us move on from it. I would like to send you both away and be with only those two."
"Welcome to the family," Thomas said, offering Xavier a glass of wine.
Instead of continuing to question Xavier, Thomas liked that he had someone who understood just how grumpy Zephyr could get concerning Seraphina and Selene.
"You will need lots of wine," Thomas said, grabbing the bottle.
"When will you be leaving? I can escort Selene here for another day. I’m sure they would both like that," Xavier said, watching intently as Selene spoke with her mother.
"We were going to leave tomorrow night. We must leave soon to have all the Everharts here return with us before they can speak to Selene," said Thomas.
"How will you stop their curiosity about him still being alive? They will assume it is either you, Seraphina, or Selene. If they come questioning Selene, I will kill them. Ripping their heads off has never failed me," Xavier said, giving an early warning.
"I shall take care of it. There will be no one coming to question Selene, but if they are foolish enough to slip away to find her, I will personally kill them. As far as they are concerned, Selene didn’t inherit the family talent. It is not impossible," Zephyr said.
There were many purebloods born without the talents their families possessed.
"Seraphina and I never spoke of seeing any signs that Selene was like the Everharts. Unless Selene is cut, there is no way for them to find out. We will all take care of it so they don’t come to you," Thomas promised.
Once they leave, Thomas hoped that it would be the last Xavier and Selene ever had to hear about the Everharts.
