"It is through your tricks that I ended up in the palace. Why pick me as the woman to marry you when you were just going to be like this toward me? Welcoming any woman who will take off her dress before you to sleep with you. You could have chosen someone more accepting of this," said Vivienne.
"I did. You haven’t left me yet. I’m not in the mood to deal with this. I must think about Xavier’s marriage and how to use it to benefit me. He’s slipped out of your hands now so don’t think about leaving me for him. I’ll kill you if that thought crosses your mind," Darius warned Vivienne.
She was his alone.
"You can’t kill me. The others won’t be pleased and you don’t want to upset them. We’re to have a child and I think I will let them know you have been running around with women far below you. It is not like I don’t want to sleep with you that you need to turn to other women. I am the only one you should bed," Vivienne advised Darius.
"Yet I asked you to sleep with me a moment ago and you declined. Sleeping with you isn’t as fun as it used to be. You should try to smile a little or think of my suggestion," Darius said but he knew she was too prideful to do it.
"I’m not inviting another woman to our chamber. Don’t you get enough of that already? You should stop thinking it is me who is boring and look at yourself. Perhaps it is you who cannot excite me to make our time worth trying. Excuse me," Vivenne said, trying to walk away but Darius grabbed her hand.
"We both know that is not true. Why do you think so many women want me?" Darius asked.
Vivienne smiled. It was always funny when Darius thought anyone wanted to be around him because he was wonderful at anything. "They flocked to you like little birds because you are the king. Take away your name and all the money, who would want to be around you? You are awful."
"That is true," Darius agreed, surprising Vivienne. He let go of her instead of forcing her to stay like he wanted her to do at first. "They all want me because I am the king. I don’t mind it. I enjoy getting to use others. You thought that would hurt me?"
"You have only earned yourself second glances because you have become my wife. The palace and its power are at your fingertips. Why do you seek my love? Stop acting like a fool Vivenne. Find better things to do with your anger," Darius offered advice.
"You fail to realise that I would not be angry if you would only keep your hands to yourself," Vivienne replied.
"I never promised to love you. You had that silly dream by yourself. I did as I was asked, which was to find a queen and do what I could to put a child inside of you. All you need to do is ignore everything you see and give me a child. You fail to do both," said Darius.
He wouldn’t need to take it this far if Vivienne didn’t barge her way into his private quarters.
Darius took his bottle of wine with him as he headed to the door. "I would love to finish our talk but since you won’t lift your dress for me, I have to see about this wedding. Thank you for informing me."
Darius left Vivienne to head to the court to see and hear for himself that Xavier was getting married today. It was unbelievable yet believable at the same time. Xavier was one of the few the elders failed to control and doing this would piss them off which Xavier would enjoy doing.
Darius regretted that he had not spotted Selene first. ’She would make a fine mistress,’ he thought.
