Selene laid with her back turned to Xavier. With the room so silent Selene started to think she had wasted her time waiting up for Xavier. She tried to go to sleep but with Xavier being so close to her, it was hard to.
"Either go to sleep or talk, Selene. Your constant movement bothers me," Xavier spoke up.
"Regardless of why we got married, did you at least enjoy the wedding? The decorations and all that was done? I tried my best to turn it into something you would like," said Selene, attempting to make small talk.
Xavier laid on his back, staring at the ceiling above them. "It was fine for me. I have not attended many to know what is good or not but I enjoyed it since there weren’t many people present."
"Did you attend the king’s wedding or the ones for relatives?" Selene asked. She was curious about it since she wasn’t present during that time. Was the king’s wedding as grand as others claimed it to be?
"I did not attend. I travelled a bit during that time. There were other Blackthorns there to make up for me not showing. I told you we are not close," Xavier replied. He looked away from the ceiling to Selene.
A little more and she might roll off the bed.
"I know but as Lord Blackthorn I would have expected you there. Have they ever succeeded in forcing you to be somewhere you did not want to be?" Selene asked, wanting to learn more about Xavier.
"When I was younger. They’ve given it a rest now since there is someone else to go to my place but the king tries to call upon me. As you saw, I have good reason to avoid him and you should too. You should never be alone with him. Promise me that you won’t," Xavier said, needing to hear it from her now.
"I won’t. What business would I have with the king or anyone in the palace? You know what they think of my family so I plan to stay away from all of them. They will only try to speak poorly of my parents or use me to get answers about you. I am not in the mood for any of it," Selene replied.
Xavier smiled. "Have I told you how smart you are?"
"I believe you have. I am not fond of the king and I do not like the look he gave me. He seems like someone who would go out of his way to make me uncomfortable. I understand why you do not go near him. You should keep that up," Selene said since then she wouldn’t be in the same space as the king.
"Selene, do you mind looking at me now that we are speaking or do I scare you? I have promised not to do anything to you. Would you prefer that I give the room to you? You do not need to push yourself to lay with me," Xavier said, finding it more important she be comfortable.
Selene frowned. "You were going so well then ended it with that. Very well, I will not be worried about upsetting you. Still, you will tell me of the times I bother you, right? We will talk to each other and say what bothers us. There isn’t any love between us but I want this marriage to work where we respect each other." freёwebnoѵel.com
