"Are you certain the boy will show? I’ve never been able to trust Xavier," said Ragnar.
It was nearing the time for Xavier to meet with them so Ragnar started to become nervous.
Ragnar looked around the old family home. "How can we be so sure he didn’t come beforehand to put something in here to kill us?"
"We’ve been here all day, you fool. We would have heard him here or have you lost your senses? I’m sure he will be here soon so we won’t need to go to his estate anymore. I did not see the point in going there when we knew he wouldn’t allow us in," said Camilla.
"Stop your mumbling," Nathaniel ordered his siblings. He had enough of them speaking from the moment he arrived. "It isn’t long before it will be noon. If he does not show up then we will go to him."
"Will we?" Camilla shared a look with Ragnar. "I don’t plan to go and stand outside his estate again. You two can do it but I certainly will not. You should learn how to control your son instead of dragging us around."
"For once, I agree with our dear sister," Ragnar spoke up. It was a waste of his time to keep travelling to Xavier’s estate only to be ignored. "I cannot find it in me to go there and stand. We looked like three fools when we did it the first time. You may go alone."
Nathaniel sighed. "Why did I bring you two from where you were hiding?"
"Because you wanted to make it look like our mess as well. Xavier is more like you than I thought by marrying a woman the family isn’t all for. How are we to know you are not all for him being with the woman he loves and what you are doing now is only an act?" Camilla asked.
Nathaniel always tried to make himself look good and paint the others as the ones messing up. It wouldn’t be any different here.
"I was curious about that but then I thought that couldn’t be it. Oh, we have a visitor," Ragnar said, looking at the door.
"He’s arrived," Nathaniel said, ready to deal with his son.
Camilla made her way to a quiet corner to be out of the way. She enjoyed sitting back and watching the way Xavier would handle his father. Nathaniel was always praised as the oldest so there needed to be times when someone put him in his place.
"Why is the mood here so bad? You were all so eager to meet me yesterday so I expected a warm welcome. Let’s get this over with," Xavier said, making himself comfortable by finding a chair. "Doesn’t anyone clean this place? I can see a lot of dust."
"We’re not here to talk about cleaning. This concerns your marriage which has put the family in a bad place. You should have gathered the family before you went ahead and married that woman. It is not too late to fix this," said Nathaniel.
Instead of responding to his father, Xavier acknowledged his aunt. "It must be pretty serious if my father brought you here. Come to kill my wife?"
Camilla smiled. "If needed."
Ragnar frowned. "I am standing right here." freewёbnoνel.com
