Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord novel Chapter 83

Chapter 83: Rash decision (2)

Gabriel returned to his father’s home expecting good news about his mother’s state. She might be human, but Gabriel knew his mother was strong enough to pull through something like this. Her story in this world wasn’t written to come to an end like this.

When Gabriel entered the home, it was almost in the same state as he had left it but something was off.

The servants avoided his gaze as if something tragic had happened. The further he walked into the home, Gabriel realised it wasn’t as he left it. The mood had changed.

This caused Gabriel to rush to see Lucinda.

Before he could enter the room, Gabriel bumped into Cassandra. Her teary eyes and heartbroken appearance gave away his fears were true.

Gabriel tried not to pay attention to the noises in the home as then he would have to acknowledge he couldn’t hear his mother breathing anymore. It had been faint earlier but at least he had heard it.

Now there was silence with only the doctor or servants moving around.

"Gabriel," Cassandra cried. "I don’t know why. He just came in and bit her.’

"What?" Gabriel asked, his voice carrying to the other rooms since he was loud. "Who bit her?"

Gabriel stormed into the room to check on his mother before Cassandra could answer him.

Cassandra followed Gabriel inside since she knew he would need to be comforted. "Your mother woke for a moment but then stopped breathing. Y-Your father came in to get her to open her eyes again and when she didn’t, he bit her."

Gabriel made his mother sit up. He couldn’t ignore that there weren’t any signs of life from the woman he held in his arms. He couldn’t hear her heart beating or feel her body move as she breathed.

"Why?" Gabriel turned his attention to the panicking doctor. "Why the hell would he bite her?"

Gabriel knew and his father should know as well that mixed-bloods couldn’t turn anyone into vampires. It was the purebloods who could do it.

The mixed-bloods who were determined to give turning humans a try created monsters who lost themselves and had to be killed. His mother was never going to live long even if she survived the bite since men from the palace would have come to kill her.

"I’m sorry," Cassandra cried, her right hand covering her mouth. "I should have stopped him. You must go look at your father. He has been alone since he bit her. I don’t know what to do."

Gabriel couldn’t let go of his mother. Part of it felt like his fault since he left her to find her way home and did not allow her to come to his home. Had he allowed her to come to his home she would still be alive.

Gabriel wasn’t ready to be without his mother. There wasn’t anyone more supportive of or praised him than his mother. She always knew he would be someone great.

Cassandra looked at Watson. A doctor wasn’t needed here anymore when Lucinda was dead. "Thank you for the time you have spent here to help us. I will escort you out. He needs time with his mother."

Watson nodded his head, desperate to get out of the home. George was already acting like a madman and with Gabriel returning too late to hold his mother one more time before she passed, he knew it wasn’t going to be good from here on out.

Cassandra quietly escorted Watson out. She needed a break from acting like she cared about Lucinda’s death. ’Good riddance,’ she thought.

Cassandra couldn’t resist it and ended up covering Lucinda’s face when she woke up to hide any involvement Bryce might have had in her attack. It caught her off guard to hear George coming and then to see him bite Lucinda.

’What was he thinking?’ Cassandra wondered. It was well-known that his bite would have sent Lucinda mad and then she would be killed by order of the king.
